Dan Croll

Daniel Francis Croll is an English singer-songwriter born on 18 July 1990 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. He is primarily known for his songs From Nowhere, Compliment Your Soul, Home, and Yesterday. His musical style is frequently associated with indie pop and folktronica, while also drawing from indie folk, folk-pop, rock music, and 1970s-style R&B and soft rock.

At age 18, Croll moved to Liverpool to attend the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). During his time at LIPA in 2011, he was named Songwriter of the Year by the Musicians' Benevolent Fund. He was also selected as one of eight students to participate in a one-to-one session with LIPA founder Sir Paul McCartney, an encounter that later inspired his 2020 song Yesterday.

Croll signed with Turn First Records in 2012 and launched his debut single, From Nowhere, in September 2012 through Turn First and his own imprint, Racquet Records. The track reached the top of the Hype Machine popular charts for three days, received airplay on UK stations including BBC 6 Music, XFM, Amazing Radio, and BBC Radio 1, and peaked at number 36 on the US Billboard Alternative chart. The Guardian named him a New Band of the Day in November 2012. He followed this with the singles Compliment Your Soul and In/Out in 2013. Additionally, his music gained exposure through video games, with Compliment Your Soul featured on the FIFA 14 soundtrack and an Andrew Baardsen remix of From Nowhere included in Grand Theft Auto V.

Croll released his debut full-length studio album, Sweet Disarray, in 2014. For Record Store Day in April 2014, he released a limited 10-inch vinyl featuring Hello My Baby, which he recorded in Durban with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, backed by the track Ever at Your Side. After releasing the single One of Us in 2015, Croll signed with Communion Music in June 2016. He released the single Swim later that year, followed by his second studio album, Emerging Adulthood, in July 2017, which was produced by Ben H. Allen.

In 2018, Croll relocated from Liverpool to Los Angeles. He subsequently collaborated with producer Matthew E. White at Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia. This partnership led to his third studio album, Grand Plan, released in August 2020, followed by a live version recorded at Spacebomb in 2021. In July 2021, he issued the four-track EP On Top through Communion Music, which was also produced and recorded with White. Croll released his fourth studio album, Fools, in 2023.
