Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell is an American singer-songwriter born on December 18, 2001, in Los Angeles, California. Raised in the Highland Park neighborhood, she is the daughter of Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell, both actors and musicians who contribute to her tours. She and her older brother, Finneas O'Connell, were homeschooled by their mother, who taught them songwriting basics and encouraged their artistic exploration. Eilish joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at age eight and began writing songs at age eleven, initially pursuing dance until a growth plate injury in 2016 caused her to pivot fully to music.

Eilish first gained public attention in late 2015 after uploading the song "Ocean Eyes" to SoundCloud. Written and produced by her brother, the track quickly accumulated significant listens, leading to a management deal and early industry backing. In 2016, she signed with Darkroom and Interscope Records, releasing singles such as "Six Feet Under" and "Bellyache." Her debut EP, Don't Smile at Me, was released in August 2017 and achieved commercial success internationally, including reaching the top 20 on the US Billboard 200. Following extensive promotional campaigns and tours, she became the youngest artist to reach one billion streams on a single project.

In March 2019, Eilish released her debut full-length studio album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart, making her the first artist born in the 2000s to hold a US number-one album. Its single "Bad Guy" topped the Billboard Hot 100, marking the first time an artist born in the 21st century reached the top spot on the chart, and earned a Diamond certification from the RIAA. Her world tours behind the album included major festival appearances, though her 2020 Where Do We Go? World Tour was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eilish extended her work to film soundtracks, co-writing and performing the title track "No Time to Die" for the James Bond film of the same name, which topped the UK Singles Chart and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2022. Her second studio album, Happier Than Ever (2021), also debuted atop the Billboard 200 and produced several top-ten singles. In 2023, Eilish co-wrote and performed "What Was I Made For?" for the film Barbie, earning her a second UK number-one single and a second Academy Award. Her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, was released in 2024, featuring top-five singles like "Lunch" and "Birds of a Feather."

Recognized for a distinctive vocal style that frequently utilizes double tracking, vocal layering, and harmony lines, Eilish has won ten Grammy Awards, two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, nine American Music Awards, twenty Guinness World Records, eight MTV Video Music Awards, and four Brit Awards. She is the second artist and only female artist in Grammy history to sweep all four general field categories in a single ceremony, as well as the youngest two-time Academy Award winner. Alongside her musical achievements, Eilish engages in political activism focused on gender equality, women's reproductive rights, and climate change awareness.
