Bad Bunny

Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known professionally as Bad Bunny, is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and record producer. Widely recognized for broadening the global popularity of Spanish-language rap and Latin urban music, he has incorporated genres such as Latin trap, salsa, and rock into his work. Over his career, he has achieved significant commercial success, earning multiple global chart-topping records, streaming milestones, and major awards across the music industry.

Martínez was born on March 10, 1994, in Bayamón and raised in the Almirante Sur barrio of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. His mother worked as a schoolteacher and his father was a truck driver. Raised in a household that listened to salsa, merengue, and pop ballads, he sang in his church choir until age 13 and began writing his own music at age 14. After high school, he studied audiovisual communications at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo while working as a supermarket bagger and cashier, eventually leaving higher education to focus on music.

He gained prominence in 2016 following the release of his song Diles, which led to a record deal with Hear This Music. His career continued to grow with singles such as Soy Peor and prominent collaborations including I Like It alongside Cardi B and J Balvin, as well as Mía featuring Drake. In December 2018, he released his debut studio album, X 100pre, followed by the collaborative album Oasis with J Balvin in 2019. During this period, he hosted the Beats 1 Spanish-language show Trap Kingz and was named to the Forbes 30 under 30 list.

In 2020, Bad Bunny released three projects: YHLQMDLG, the compilation Las que no iban a salir, and El Último Tour Del Mundo, which became the first all-Spanish language album to reach number one on the US Billboard 200. He followed these in 2022 with Un Verano Sin Ti, which achieved global commercial success, topped charts worldwide, and set streaming records. His subsequent studio albums include Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana (2023) and Debí Tirar Más Fotos (2025). The latter became the first Spanish-language album to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, while his single DTMF became the first Spanish-language solo song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Beyond his studio recordings and major international concert tours, Bad Bunny has performed at high-profile events, including guest and headlining spots at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2020 and 2026. He has also expanded into professional wrestling, debuting in the ring for WWE at WrestleMania 37, holding the WWE 24/7 Championship, and appearing at the Royal Rumble and Backlash. Additionally, he has pursued acting, appearing in films such as Bullet Train, Cassandro, Caught Stealing, and Happy Gilmore 2, as well as the television series Narcos: Mexico.

Throughout his career, Bad Bunny has accumulated numerous major accolades, including six Grammy Awards, seventeen Latin Grammy Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, eight Billboard Music Awards, and thirteen Lo Nuestro Awards. He has repeatedly been recognized as Spotify's most-streamed artist globally and was named Billboard's Greatest Pop Star for 2022 and 2025.
