Auli’i Cravalho

Chloe Auliʻi Cravalho, born November 22, 2000, is an American actress and singer. She made her acting debut voicing the title character in the Disney animated musical film Moana (2016) and reprised the role in its 2024 sequel. Cravalho is also known for starring in television series such as Rise and The Power, as well as feature films including All Together Now, Darby and the Dead, Crush, and the 2024 film adaptation of Mean Girls: The Musical.

Cravalho was born in Kohala, Hawaii, and is of Chinese, Native Hawaiian, Puerto Rican, Portuguese, and Irish descent. Her parents operated a construction company and divorced when she was young. Cravalho grew up with her mother in a one-bedroom apartment, relying on the federal food stamps program for support. While attending Kamehameha Schools' Kapālama campus as a high school freshman and singing soprano in the glee club, she lived in Mililani, Hawaii. Following her breakthrough in Moana, she purchased a house for her mother. In June 2021, Cravalho was accepted into Columbia University to major in environmental science, though she repeatedly deferred her entrance to focus on her acting career.

At age 14, Cravalho was cast as Moana after a talent agent in Oʻahu discovered her through a charity video contest and brought her to Los Angeles to audition, where she was the final candidate selected from hundreds of applicants. In 2017, she sang the national anthem at the National Memorial Day Concert and was cast in the NBC drama series Rise. Later that year, she agreed to voice Moana in the first Hawaiian language–dubbed Disney film, which premiered in June 2018. Cravalho also served as a guest narrator for Disney's Candlelight Processional at Walt Disney World in 2018 and 2021.

In November 2019, Cravalho portrayed Ariel in ABC's live-action concert rendition, The Little Mermaid Live!. The following year, she starred in the Netflix drama film All Together Now and participated in the online play reading series Acting for a Cause to raise funds for non-profit charities such as Mount Sinai Medical Center. In 2022, she starred in the films Darby and the Dead and Crush. Cravalho subsequently played Jos Cleary-Lopez in the sci-fi series The Power and voiced the lead character in the animated series Hailey's On It!, both appearing in 2023. She also performed on stage in theatrical productions, including playing Evita in London in 2023.

In 2024, Cravalho portrayed Janis ʻImiʻike in the film adaptation of Mean Girls and joined the Broadway production of Cabaret as Sally Bowles. She was also announced as an executive producer for the live-action Moana adaptation, choosing not to reprise the titular role. Her voice acting work includes a role in Zootopia 2 and guest-starring as Moana in the series Sofia the First: Royal Magic. In her personal life, Cravalho came out as bisexual in April 2020 and revealed in January 2024 that she has Ehlers–Danlos syndrome. She is a fan of the Buffalo Bills and sang the national anthem for a home opener at Highmark Stadium.
