Andrew Stevens

Andrew Stevens (born Herman Andrew Stephens on June 10, 1955) is an American actor, model, director, and film producer. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, he is the only child of actress Stella Stevens and Noble Herman Stephens. Early in his professional journey, he worked in modeling and television commercials before establishing himself in feature films and television series, later expanding his career into film executive roles and independent production.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Raised in Memphis and California, Stevens studied acting under renowned teachers including Lee Strasberg. Before achieving widespread acting fame, he gained early entertainment exposure through print modeling and commercial work. His clean-cut aesthetic and screen presence quickly attracted casting directors, leading to early television roles in the mid-1970s, including appearances in Shampoo and the television drama Once an Eagle.

Acting Career and Breakthroughs

Stevens achieved widespread industry attention in 1978 with his performance in the Vietnam War drama film The Boys in Company C, for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Motion Picture Acting Debut. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, he built an extensive body of work across thriller, horror, and action genres. His notable film roles include performances in cult classics such as Massacre at Central High (1976), Brian De Palma's supernatural thriller The Fury (1978), Death Hunt (1981), and 10 to Midnight (1983). He also starred in major television productions, including the NBC Western The Oregon Trail, the prime-time soap opera Dallas, and the popular miniseries Hollywood Wives.

Executive Roles and Film Production

Beginning in the 1990s, Stevens transitioned heavily into writing, directing, and film production. He became a prominent executive in independent Hollywood filmmaking, serving as president and chief operating officer at Franchise Pictures. In this capacity, he oversaw the production and distribution of numerous feature films, including commercial successes such as The Whole Nine Yards (2000). He subsequently founded Andrew Stevens Entertainment and Stevens Entertainment Group, producing over 150 feature films. In addition to his executive work, he authored instructional texts on independent filmmaking and directed a documentary tribute honoring his mother's legacy in cinema.
