Yami Gautam

Yami Gautam Dhar, born 28 November 1988, is an Indian actress who primarily works in Hindi cinema. Known for her performances in female-centric and content-driven films, her accolades include a National Film Award, two Screen Awards, and a Zee Cine Award, alongside three Filmfare Award nominations. Apart from her acting career, she has endorsed several products and brands, including Glow & Lovely, Cornetto, Chevrolet, and Dollar Missy.

Gautam was born into a Hindu Brahmin family in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, and raised in Chandigarh. Her father, Mukesh Gautam, is a Punjabi film director and chief advisor of PTC Network, and her mother is Anjali Gautam. She has a younger sister, Surilie Gautam, and a younger brother, Ojas Gautam. Raised in a disciplined and academically inclined environment, Gautam originally planned to join the Indian Administrative Service. While pursuing a degree in law honors, she engaged in modeling assignments before deciding at age 20 to move to Mumbai to pursue acting.

Gautam began her acting career on television, starring in soap operas such as Chand Ke Paar Chalo, Raajkumar Aaryyan, and Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam, as well as reality shows. She made her feature debut in the 2010 Kannada film Ullasa Utsaha, followed by her Hindi debut in Shoojit Sircar's romantic comedy Vicky Donor in 2012. Her performance as Ashima Roy earned her critical praise and the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut. She subsequently appeared in Total Siyappa and Action Jackson in 2014, Badlapur in 2015, Sanam Re and Junooniyat in 2016, Kaabil and Sarkar 3 in 2017, and Batti Gul Meter Chalu in 2018.

In 2019, Gautam gained wider recognition with two major commercial successes: the military action thriller Uri: The Surgical Strike, playing intelligence officer Pallavi Sharma, and the satirical comedy-drama Bala, playing Pari Mishra. She subsequently starred in direct-to-streaming releases, including Ginny Weds Sunny, Bhoot Police, A Thursday, Dasvi, Lost, and Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga. In 2023, she starred as a lawyer in the commercial hit OMG 2, receiving a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In 2024, Gautam starred in the political action thriller Article 370, playing an intelligence officer, a role that won her the National Film Award for Best Actress. Her 2025 projects include the Netflix film Dhoom Dhaam, a portrayal of Shah Bano in the courtroom drama Haq, and a cameo in Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Gautam married filmmaker Aditya Dhar on 4 June 2021, adopting the name Yami Gautam Dhar, and the couple had their first child, a son named Vedavid, in 2024.
