X Mayo

Xochitl Gabriela Mayo, known professionally as X Mayo, is an American performer, writer, producer, and comedian. She has established a varied career across television and film, earning recognition for her work behind the scenes as well as her onscreen acting performances.

Born on July 27, 1987, Mayo was raised in Inglewood, California, and identifies as Afro-Latina. During her youth, she engaged in training focused on acting, writing, and dance. Following a period in college, she chose to leave her studies to pursue a career as a makeup artist, eventually relocating to New York City for work in the cosmetics field. While in New York, she began studying improv comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade.

Mayo expanded her creative focus by producing and appearing in the sketch comedy web project Who Made the Potato Salad, which featured a cast of diverse comedians. In 2019, she co-hosted the live comedy production "Unsung Heroes Of..." alongside Shenovia Large, earning a highlight from Time Out New York. That same period marked her transition into television writing when she was hired as a staff writer for The Daily Show, a role she held from 2018 to 2021.

Her performance career includes recurring and main television roles, as well as several film appearances. On television, she appeared in the Facebook Live production Strangers and later landed a primary role on the NBC comedy series American Auto, which aired from 2021 to 2023. Her other television credits include supporting and guest roles on shows such as The Good Doctor, Loot, Swarm, Wonder Man, and a revival of Scrubs. She was also considered for the hosting role on the late-night program After Midnight.

In feature films, Mayo appeared in supporting parts in the 2019 drama The Farewell and the adventure film Finding ʻOhana. She went on to co-star in the 2022 comedy film The Blackening and appeared in The Treasure of Foggy Mountain, playing a park ranger named Taylor. Her film work also extends to a role in the project Freakier Friday.

Throughout her career, Mayo has earned notable industry recognition, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series for her contributions to The Daily Show. Moving forward in her production career, she was attached to write and executive produce the CBS comedy series Checkpoint, drawing inspiration from her former employment as a TSA agent.
