About Vitaa

Charlotte Gonin, known professionally by her stage name Vitaa, is a French singer-songwriter. Born on March 14, 1983, in Mulhouse, France, she grew up in Lucenay. She was raised by a French father and a French-Italian mother named Geneviève. Gonin began singing at age eleven, drawing early musical inspiration from French artists Jacques Brel and Francis Cabrel, as well as American soul musician Marvin Gaye.

By the age of fifteen, Gonin began organizing small concerts. She left home at seventeen and later reignited her passion for songwriting after completing a bachelor's degree and a BTS in international commerce. Before relocating to Paris to pursue her career, she spent several years working in a clothing store located in a shopping mall in La Part-Dieu in Lyon. She adopted the stage name Vitaa based on her mother and her great-grandmother's first name, which derives from an Italian name meaning "life."

Gonin began her early studio work alongside producer Akos. In 2000, the artist Dadoo invited her to sing on the song "Oublie" and perform the chorus for "Pas à pas." The track gained radio airplay and contributed to her initial recognition under the name Vitaa. While seeking a record deal, she worked various small jobs to pay rent. She subsequently recorded another duet on Dadoo's album titled "Sur ta route," followed by collaborations with several other artists, including "Mytho" with Mafia K'1 Fry, "Bol d'air" with Rohff and Jasmin Lopez, "Peur d'aimer" with Nessbeal, and "Ne dis jamais" with Sinik.

Vitaa achieved major recognition through her collaboration with Diam's on the track "Confessions nocturnes." Following this breakthrough, she became the first artist signed to the Motown France record label. She released her debut solo album, A fleur de toi, on February 5, 2007. The album peaked at number one in France, and the official music video for its title track was filmed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

As her profile grew, Gonin served as the opening act for Rihanna's Last Girl on Earth concert show in Paris. Expanding her creative work into voice acting, she provided the French dubbing voice for the character Poppy in the animated films Trolls World Tour and Trolls Band Together.

In 2023, she released her second solo album, Charlotte, which was titled after her birth name. The project explores her personal life as a mother and her journey of self-discovery, featuring the song "Ton amoureuse," which depicts her relationship with her child. The album was released on October 6, followed by the video for "Je n'oublié pas" on October 26. She performed the song at the 25th NRJ Music Awards, where she won the award for Francophone female artist of the year.
