Tyson Apostol

Tyson Apostol is an American reality television personality and former professional cyclist. He is widely recognized for competing across four separate seasons of the CBS reality series Survivor, culminating in a victory during the show's twenty-seventh season. In addition to his television career, he works as a podcast host and is involved in the sport of pickleball.

Born on June 17, 1979, in Provo, Utah, Apostol was raised in the nearby town of Lindon and completed his secondary education at Orem High School. He spent two years serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines. Following his return, he attended Brigham Young University on a swimming scholarship, though he did not earn a degree. Later in his life, he managed a bicycle shop located in Utah.

Between 2005 and 2007, Apostol pursued a professional career in road cycling across Europe. During this period, he rode for Austrian-based professional teams, including Team Volksbank Leingruber Ideal and Team Vorarlberg.

Apostol first gained national television recognition on Survivor: Tocantins in 2009, finishing in eighth place. He returned the following year for Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains, where a misplaced vote contributed to his elimination in fifteenth place. In 2013, he competed alongside his girlfriend in Survivor: Blood vs. Water; after navigating strategic alliances and securing crucial individual immunity victories, he won the grand prize of one million dollars with seven out of eight jury votes. He made his fourth appearance on the series in 2020 for Survivor: Winners at War, finishing in eleventh place after re-entering the main game from the Edge of Extinction.

Beyond Survivor, Apostol has participated in several other reality television programs. In 2014, he appeared on the fourth season of Marriage Boot Camp, during which he proposed to his long-time partner, Rachel Foulger. He later competed on the inaugural season of The Challenge: USA in 2022 and joined the third season of House of Villains. Additionally, he portrayed "Darth Gotye" in the viral parody video "The Star Wars That I Used to Know" and appeared in cash games on CBS Sports Network's Poker Night Live.

Apostol has established a long-running career in podcasting. He co-hosts News AF on Rob Has a Podcast, a show covering unusual current events that originated from an earlier project in 2015. He also hosts The Pod Has Spoken for The Ringer, analyzing Survivor episodes, and has led several pickleball podcasts, including PicklePod, Inside MLP Podcast, and Pickleball Minutes with Tyson and Patrick. He later co-hosted Life with Boston Rob and Tyson Apostol, Midlife Crisisses, and the official companion podcast for House of Villains.

In his personal life, Apostol married Rachel Foulger in a private Utah ceremony officiated by fellow Survivor participant Stephen Fishbach on February 8, 2015. The couple has two daughters and resides in the Phoenix, Arizona region. An active player and promoter in the pickleball community, Apostol acts as a social media influencer for pickleball brands and has earned tens of thousands of dollars competing in live poker tournaments.
