Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci Jr. is an American actor and filmmaker. Known as a character actor, he has performed a wide variety of roles in film, television, and theater, earning numerous accolades throughout his career. He made his feature film debut in John Huston's Prizzi's Honor in 1985 and subsequently expanded into writing, directing, and producing projects.

Tucci was born on November 11, 1960, in Peekskill, New York, and grew up in nearby Katonah, New York. His parents, Joan and Stanley Tucci Sr., are of Italian descent with distant roots in Marzi, Calabria, Italy. Tucci spent a year living in Florence, Italy, during the early 1970s. He attended John Jay High School in Lewisboro, New York, where he participated in the school's drama club. He subsequently attended the State University of New York at Purchase, majoring in acting and graduating in 1982.

In 1982, Tucci made his Broadway debut in The Queen and the Rebels. After appearing in supporting film roles in projects such as Monkey Shines, Beethoven, The Pelican Brief, and It Could Happen to You, he starred as Richard Cross in the television series Murder One, receiving a Primetime Emmy nomination. He made his film directorial debut with the comedy-drama Big Night (1996), which he co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in, earning an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay. He later written, directed, and starred in The Impostors (1998) and Joe Gould's Secret (2000).

Tucci gained significant acclaim for his biographical television roles, winning a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for playing Walter Winchell in Winchell (1998), and a second Golden Globe for Conspiracy (2001). On stage, he earned a Tony Award nomination for the 2002 Broadway revival of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. In film, he appeared in Road to Perdition, The Terminal, The Devil Wears Prada, and Julie & Julia. For his role in The Lovely Bones (2009), Tucci was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

During the 2010s, Tucci appeared in several high-profile film franchises, playing Caesar Flickerman in The Hunger Games series, as well as roles in Captain America: The First Avenger and Transformers: Age of Extinction. His other film credits from this period include Margin Call, Easy A, Burlesque, Spotlight, and Beauty and the Beast. In 2017, he wrote and directed the drama film Final Portrait.

Tucci has also performed extensively in television and audio projects. He voiced characters in animated productions such as Central Park, BoJack Horseman, Robots, and Mr. Peabody & Sherman, and earned a Grammy Award nomination for narrating the audiobook The One and Only Shrek!. From 2021 to 2022, Tucci hosted the CNN food and travel documentary series Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, winning two consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards.
