Spencer Matthews

Spencer George Matthews, born on 6 August 1988, is a British television personality and entrepreneur. He first came into the public eye through his appearances on the E4 constructed reality show Made in Chelsea. Over the course of his career, he has appeared on numerous broadcast television programmes, founded a non-alcoholic beverage company, and established himself as an extreme endurance athlete.

Matthews was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, to landowner and entrepreneur David Matthews and Rhodesian-born artist Jane Spencer Parker. Named after his maternal grandfather, architect Robert Spencer Parker, he grew up with an older half-sister and two older brothers. His brother Michael died at age 22 in 1999 while scaling Mount Everest. Matthews split his childhood between Caunton Manor, a 30-acre estate in Nottinghamshire, and Eden Rock in Saint Barthélemy. He was educated at Eton College and subsequently studied cinema and television at the University of Southern California before dropping out after nine months. In 2007, his parents acquired a 10,000-acre estate in Scotland, earning the courtesy titles of Laird and Lady of Glen Affric.

Following his television breakthrough on Made in Chelsea, Matthews competed in several other television shows. He won the fourth series of Channel 4's competition series The Jump in 2017 and reached the final of Celebrity MasterChef in 2018. That same year, he became the face of Cartoon Network's Ben 10 Deluxe Omnitrix Watch. He went on to present for the BBC's Watchdog, feature in a CBeebies marketing campaign, and participate in the 2024 BBC Two series Pilgrimage. Matthews also starred alongside his wife in the E4 show Spencer, Vogue and Baby Too, which was renewed for a second series. In 2023, he fronted the Disney+ documentary Finding Michael, which followed his journey to Mount Everest in an attempt to recover his brother's body.

In addition to his media work, Matthews is the founder and Chief Brand Officer of CleanCo, a business offering non-alcoholic spirit alternatives. He created the brand after adopting a sober lifestyle following the birth of his first child. As an endurance athlete, Matthews completed thirty marathons in thirty days in Jordan for charity in August 2024, earning a Guinness World Record. His other athletic pursuits include Brazilian jiu-jitsu, in which he attained a blue belt in 2020.

Matthews married Irish model and media personality Vogue Williams on 9 June 2018 at his family's Glen Affric estate. The couple has four children: three sons born in September 2018, April 2022, and September 2026, and a daughter born in July 2020. Matthews is also an author, having released his autobiography, Confessions of a Chelsea Boy: The Autobiography, in 2014.
