Playboi Carti

Jordan Terrell Carter, born September 13, 1995 or 1996, is an American rapper known professionally as Playboi Carti. Recognized for his unconventional vocal techniques, such as his "baby voice," and his distinct fashion sense, Carter is considered an influential figure in modern hip-hop and a pioneer of the rage microgenre. Critics have highlighted his focus on mood, atmospheric production, and persona over traditional lyricism. In addition to his solo recording career, Carter founded the record label and rap collective Opium in 2019.

Carter was born and raised in the Atlanta, Georgia area, growing up in the suburb of Riverdale and attending North Springs Charter High School. During his youth, he initially aspired to play professional basketball and participated in a choir, but later shifted his primary focus toward music. As a teenager, he began rapping and uploading early tracks to SoundCloud under the pseudonym Sir Cartier, drawing musical influence from artists like Wiz Khalifa, Currensy, and Odd Future, while developing an interest in punk-inspired fashion and thrifting.

At age 18, Carter relocated to New York City to pursue his musical aspirations full-time. After joining the Atlanta-based collective Awful Records in 2014, he connected with members of the ASAP Mob, eventually signing with ASAP Rocky's AWGE imprint in a joint venture with Interscope Records in 2016. Carter gained widespread mainstream visibility in 2017 following the release of his self-titled debut mixtape. The project peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart and yielded hit singles including "Magnolia" and "Wokeuplikethis" featuring Lil Uzi Vert.

In May 2018, Carter released his debut studio album, Die Lit, which debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 and achieved commercial success. Following a period marked by leaked tracks and high-profile features, Carter released his second studio album, Whole Lotta Red, on Christmas Day in 2020. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, marking his first chart-topping project, and received strong critical acclaim, later being recognized by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest hip-hop albums.

Between 2021 and 2024, Carter maintained a high profile through major collaborative tracks. He appeared on Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign's single "Carnival," which became his first number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as high-charting features alongside Travis Scott and The Weeknd. In March 2025, Carter released his third studio album, Music, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and featured the promotional single "Evil J0rdan." Following the album's release, Carter joined The Weeknd on tour and launched his North American arena tour, the Antagonist Tour.
