Paolo Nutini

Paolo Giovanni Nutini is a Scottish singer-songwriter from Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He is best known for his chart-topping music career, which includes multiple high-charting studio albums and hit singles in the United Kingdom. Over his career, he has achieved significant commercial success, with his recordings earning multiple multi-platinum certifications and several major industry award nominations.

Nutini was born on 9 January 1987. His father, Alfredo, is a Scot of Italian descent, and his mother, Linda, is of Scottish descent. As a child, he attended PACE Youth Theatre and was expected to join his family's fish and chip shop business. He was encouraged to pursue singing by his grandfather and a schoolteacher at St Andrews Academy. Nutini later left school to work as a roadie and t-shirt seller for the Scottish band Speedway, gaining three years of industry experience while performing live. He subsequently worked as a studio hand at Park Lane Studio in Glasgow, where he began demoing songs with Speedway drummer Jim Duguid. At age 17, he relocated to London, performing regularly at The Bedford in Balham and opening for artists such as The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, and KT Tunstall.

In May 2005, shortly after turning 18, Nutini signed a record deal with Atlantic Records. He released his debut single, "These Streets," as a free download in May 2006, followed by "Last Request" in July 2006, which reached number five on the UK Singles Chart. His debut studio album, These Streets, was released in July 2006 and debuted at number three on the UK Albums Chart. Supported by additional singles such as "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" and "Rewind," the album was later certified quintuple platinum by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). During this period, Nutini performed extensive concert tours and played at major festivals, including Glastonbury, T in the Park, and the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert.

Nutini released his second studio album, Sunny Side Up, in June 2009. The record debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and returned to the top spot in early 2010. It featured singles such as "Candy," "Coming Up Easy," and "Pencil Full of Lead." Like his debut, Sunny Side Up achieved quintuple platinum certification from the BPI. Following its release, Nutini made various international media and television appearances to support the album.

In April 2014, Nutini released his third studio album, Caustic Love, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum by the BPI. Preceded by the single "Scream (Funk My Life Up)," the album was followed by an 18-month international tour across North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Following a brief hiatus in 2016, he headlined Edinburgh's Hogmanay event at the end of the year.

After an eight-year album gap, Nutini announced his fourth studio album, Last Night in the Bittersweet, in May 2022 alongside the release of the songs "Through the Echoes" and "Lose It." The album was released in July 2022, the same month he headlined the TRNSMT festival in Scotland. Across his career, Nutini has received three BRIT Award nominations, an Ivor Novello Award nomination, the Golden St Christopher medal from Barga, Italy, and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland.
