Nathan Darrow

Nathan Darrow is an American actor who gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Secret Service agent Edward Meechum in the political drama series House of Cards. He is also well known for television roles such as Victor Fries, also known as Mr. Freeze, in Gotham, Mick Danzig in Billions, John Custer in Preacher, and Andrew Madoff in the film The Wizard of Lies.

Raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Darrow completed his secondary education at Shawnee Mission North High School located in Overland Park, Kansas. He went on to receive an undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville before pursuing graduate studies at New York University.

After completing his education, Darrow returned to Kansas City in 2003 to participate in theatrical stagings of classical Shakespearean works, appearing in productions such as Henry V and Romeo and Juliet. In 2006, he portrayed a youthful William Randolph Hearst in the screen project Ambrose Bierce: Civil War Stories alongside actors Campbell Scott and Vivian Schilling.

Darrow's career achieved a major milestone after he joined a touring stage production of Richard III featuring Kevin Spacey. This collaboration directly resulted in Darrow being cast as Meechum, the dedicated bodyguard to the main characters in House of Cards. Positive critical reception and audience praise for his character led to an expanded role in the show's second season.

Alongside his television breakthrough, Darrow maintained an active schedule on stage. He performed as Ben Farrell in the production Kill Me Like You Mean It with The Stolen Chair Theatre Company in New York City. Additionally, he acted in Rachel Bonds' play Five Mile Lake at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton during May 2015, and later took part in a Southern Shakespeare Company performance of The Winter's Tale in May 2024.

Darrow expanded his television resume with recurring and guest roles across several major network and cable shows. He was cast as Mr. Freeze in the second season of Gotham, played Mick Danzig across multiple seasons of Billions starting in its debut year, and portrayed the father of protagonist Jesse Custer in Preacher. His television work further includes appearances as Jonathan Grimm in The Blacklist, Felix Pillay in the third season of Quantico, and a role in the fourth and final season of Rectify.

In 2017, Darrow appeared in the television film feature The Wizard of Lies, produced by HBO, where he took on the role of Andrew Madoff.
