MØ

Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen, known professionally as MØ, is a Danish singer and songwriter. She is widely recognized for her solo music and international collaborations, including her featured vocals on Major Lazer and DJ Snake's global hit single "Lean On", Major Lazer's "Cold Water" featuring Justin Bieber, and Iggy Azalea's "Beg for It". Her stage name originates from the initials used by her grandfather, artist Mogens Ørsted, on his paintings, and means "maiden" or "virgin to life" in Danish.

MØ was born on 13 August 1988 in Ubberud, near Odense, and grew up in Ejlstrup on the island of Funen, Denmark. Her father worked as a psychologist, her mother was a teacher, and her older brother became a doctor. She developed an interest in music at age seven through the Spice Girls. As a teenager, she became interested in punk music and anti-fascist movements, listening to acts like Black Flag, Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Sonic Youth, citing Kim Gordon as a major role model.

In 2006, MØ released her debut three-song EP, The Edmunds. In 2007, she formed the music duo MOR, releasing two EPs before disbanding in 2012. MØ then began writing a cappella pop tracks and collaborating with producer Ronni Vindahl. After signing with Sony Music in 2012, she released her debut single "Glass" in 2013, followed by "Pilgrim". After her debut EP Bikini Daze, she released her debut studio album, No Mythologies to Follow, in March 2014 to generally favorable reviews.

In late 2014, MØ earned her first US Billboard Hot 100 chart entry featuring on Iggy Azalea's "Beg for It" and won four Danish Music Awards, including Danish Album of the Year and Danish Solo Artist of the Year. In 2015, she achieved massive commercial success co-writing and singing on Major Lazer and DJ Snake's "Lean On", which topped charts worldwide. Her success continued with her 2016 solo hit "Final Song" and Major Lazer's "Cold Water", which reached number one in the United Kingdom.

MØ released her surprise EP When I Was Young in 2017, followed by her second studio album, Forever Neverland, in 2018. In 2019, she issued her mixtape MMMMØ - The Mix and toured as a support act for Panic! at the Disco. Her third studio album, Motordrome, was released in January 2022 by Sony Music UK, supported by promotional tours across North America and Europe.

In September 2023, MØ co-published the book Racing – Circles of doubt, Squares of light with Fryd Frydendahl. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of No Mythologies to Follow in 2024, she issued an expanded edition and performed anniversary concerts. She subsequently announced her fourth studio album, Plæygirl, releasing its lead single "Who Said". In 2026, she released the double single "Hunnybån" and "Fine Curls", announcing a temporary break from touring to prioritize her mental health and write new music.
