Michelle McCool

Michelle Leigh Calaway, known professionally by her maiden name Michelle McCool, is an American retired professional wrestler signed to WWE as an ambassador. Born on January 25, 1980, she achieved prominent success in professional wrestling during the 2000s and 2010s, becoming a multi-time champion and eventually earning an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

McCool was raised by parents who worked in education; her mother was a teacher and her father was a superintendent. She grew up as a fan of professional wrestling and participated in softball, basketball, and volleyball before playing first base at Pasco-Hernando Community College. She earned a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Florida State University and taught seventh-grade science for four years in Palatka, Florida. Additionally, she worked as a personal trainer, taught rhythmic gymnastics and kickboxing, and competed in National Physique Committee fitness contests.

In 2004, McCool entered World Wrestling Entertainment by competing in the WWE Diva Search. Although she did not win the contest, WWE signed her to a three-year contract in November 2004. She initially appeared on SmackDown! portraying a fitness trainer before being sent to WWE's developmental territories, Deep South Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling, where she performed, conducted interviews, provided commentary, and managed tag teams.

Returning to SmackDown! in 2006, McCool adopted a villainous teacher gimmick and later served as a valet for K.C. James and Idol Stevens. She was repackaged in 2007 as "The All-American Diva" and gradually moved into title contention. At The Great American Bash in July 2008, she defeated Natalya to become the inaugural WWE Divas Champion. The following year at The Bash, McCool captured the WWE Women's Championship, becoming the first female wrestler in history to have held both titles.

McCool later aligned with Layla to form the duo LayCool. In 2010, McCool won the Women's Championship a second time and eventually unified it with the Divas Championship at Night of Champions, becoming the first and only WWE Unified Divas Champion. Overall, she held both titles on two separate occasions, making her a four-time champion. In November 2010, Pro Wrestling Illustrated ranked McCool number one in its Female 50 list.

Dissension between McCool and Layla led to the disbandment of LayCool in early 2011. The two faced off at Extreme Rules in a Loser Leaves WWE match, where McCool was defeated, marking her final full-time match with the company. She later cited injuries, creative friction with writers, and a desire to start a family as the key factors behind her decision to retire from full-time competition.

Following her retirement, McCool made several return appearances for WWE. She was featured on the WWE Raw 25 Years special in 2018, competed in the battle royal at the all-women's pay-per-view WWE Evolution, and participated in the women's Royal Rumble matches in 2018, 2022, and 2023. In 2025, she was officially inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by her husband and fellow Hall of Famer, The Undertaker.
