Michael Ian Olmo was born on March 25, 1999, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to Tommy and Anabelle Olmo. At five years old, his family relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he spent most of his upbringing. Growing up, he was exposed to a wide range of musical influences, listening to hip-hop artists like Jay-Z alongside Latin music and alternative rock bands such as The Fray. He graduated high school in May 2017 and worked briefly at United Parcel Service before focusing full-time on music under his stage name iann dior.

Olmo began posting tracks on SoundCloud in early 2019, quickly earning millions of streams for debut releases like "Cutthroat" and "Emotions".
