Matthew Koma

Matthew Fredrick Bair, known professionally as Matthew Koma, is an American singer, songwriter, DJ, and record producer. He is widely known for writing or co-writing successful tracks including "Spectrum", "Find You", and the Grammy Award-winning song "Clarity", all produced by Zedd. Koma also contributed vocals to "Spectrum" and "Find You". Throughout his career, he has collaborated with a broad range of artists, such as Shania Twain, Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Hardwell, Zedd, Miriam Bryant, Sebastian Ingrosso, Alesso, Afrojack, Tiësto, Vicetone, and Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic.

Koma was born in Brooklyn on June 2, 1987, and raised in Seaford, Long Island, by his parents Rhonda and Gerald D. Bair. His father is a singer and songwriter, while his mother supported his musical career from his early days. Influenced at a young age by Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello, Koma first performed on stage with his father at age four and wrote his first song at nine. He attended Seaford High School.

In June 2011, Jimmy Iovine signed Koma to Interscope Records after watching him perform an acoustic rendition of the song "She". Koma released his debut EP, Parachute, in May 2012, writing and producing its four tracks alongside collaborators including Alex da Kid and Sam Watters. That year, he provided main vocals for Black Cards' "End of Pretend" and co-produced a remix of Bruce Springsteen's "Rocky Ground". He also joined the Sorry for Party Rocking Tour with LMFAO and Far East Movement, and later toured with Owl City.

In 2013, Koma toured Europe supporting Ellie Goulding alongside Charli XCX and released "Dare You" with DJ Hardwell. The following year, he was featured on Showtek's "Cannonball (Earthquake)", RAC's "Cheap Sunglasses", and Audien's "Serotonin", while writing and singing two tracks on Afrojack's album Forget the World. In 2015, Koma covered "The Tracks of My Tears" for Kia Motors' Rediscovered series and released "I Wish (My Taylor Swift)" with The Knocks.

Koma produced "Swimming in the Stars" for Britney Spears' album Glory in 2016, which was released in 2020. In 2017, he produced several tracks for Shania Twain's album Now and appeared on Downes Braide Association's Skyscraper Souls. Koma launched his project Winnetka Bowling League in 2018 with the single "On the 5" via RCA Records. He later co-wrote and co-produced Keith Urban's 2020 single "Change Your Mind", and produced and co-wrote Hilary Duff's album Luck... or Something, released in early 2026.

In his personal life, Koma dated Carly Rae Jepsen from 2012 to 2015. He married Hilary Duff in December 2019 in Los Angeles, and they have three daughters; he is also stepfather to Duff's son from her previous marriage to Mike Comrie. In 2017, Koma released "Dear Ana", a song addressing his personal battle with anorexia.
