Rivera earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico and briefly worked as a reporter for Univision.
Her modeling career began in 1995 when she competed in the Miss Puerto Rico Petite pageant, later becoming a finalist in the 1999 edition of the same contest. Expanding into television, Rivera co-hosted the programs "Eso vale" and "No te duermas" alongside Héctor Marcano on WAPA-TV in Puerto Rico. She also worked on JAM for Telemundo Internacional and starred in the Telefutura reality series "Famosas VIP."
In addition to her television work, Rivera played the role of a casino waitress in the 2009 Puerto Rican feature film Miente. She was scheduled to make a cameo appearance in a 2012 charitable production of the play Los Monólogos de la Vagina in Orlando, Florida, but withdrew two days prior to the performance due to a contractual dispute and unresolved compensation issues from a previous year.
As an entrepreneur, Rivera operated Maripily Boutique in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, which reopened after being destroyed by a fire in 2007. She later partnered with the Puerto Rican retail chain Pompis Store to sell her own branded lines of jeans, swimwear, underwear, shoes, and handbags designed to flatter a variety of body types. In 2013, she expanded her brand by launching her own fragrance, MP by Maripily.
In her personal life, Rivera has a son, José Antonio García Jr., from her relationship with José Antonio García. She married professional baseball player Roberto Alomar in June 2009, though the marriage involved legal proceedings that were later dismissed by the court. She was subsequently engaged to Spanish Broadcasting System executive Alberto Rodríguez, but the planned May 2014 wedding was canceled, and later legal issues between the two were also dismissed.
