Liam Gallagher

William John Paul Gallagher, born 21 September 1972, is an English singer and songwriter best known as the lead singer and co-founder of the rock band Oasis. Recognised for his distinctive vocal style and outspoken personality, he fronted the group during the height of the Britpop movement. Following the disbandment of Oasis, he fronted Beady Eye from 2009 to 2014 before launching a successful solo career in 2017.

Gallagher was born in the Longsight area of Manchester to Irish immigrant parents, Peggy and Tommy Gallagher. The youngest of three sons, he grew up in the suburb of Burnage alongside his brothers Paul and Noel. After his mother left his father when Liam was ten, the parents later divorced. As a youth, Gallagher initially preferred sports over music, but his interest shifted dramatically after he sustained a head injury from a hammer during his teenage years.

Following this incident, Gallagher developed a strong passion for music, taking inspiration from acts such as the Beatles, the Stone Roses, the Who, and T. Rex. He worked as a tax collector for HM Revenue and Customs and helped his brother Noel with his work as a roadie before joining a local band named The Rain as lead vocalist. The group subsequently changed its name to Oasis, and Noel joined as lead guitarist and primary songwriter.

Oasis signed with Creation Records in 1993 and released their debut album, Definitely Maybe, in 1994, which achieved immediate commercial and critical acclaim. Their second album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (1995), became one of the best-selling records in British history amidst a high-profile media feud with rival Britpop band Blur. The band's 1997 release, Be Here Now, set a record as the fastest-selling album in UK chart history.

In 1999, the Gallagher brothers established their own record label, Big Brother Recordings. Oasis continued to release chart-topping albums, including Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, Heathen Chemistry, Don't Believe the Truth, and Dig Out Your Soul, with Liam contributing several original compositions such as "Songbird". Following ongoing turbulent disputes between the brothers, Noel departed from the band in August 2009, leading to the group's dissolution.

After Oasis, Gallagher formed Beady Eye with former band members, releasing two studio albums before disbanding in 2014. In 2017, he launched a solo career with his debut album As You Were, which topped the UK Albums Chart and was certified platinum. He followed this success with the chart-topping albums Why Me? Why Not (2019) and C'mon You Know (2022), as well as a 2024 collaborative project with guitarist John Squire titled Liam Gallagher John Squire.

Throughout his career, Gallagher has earned significant industry recognition. In March 2010, he was voted the greatest frontman of all time in a reader poll by Q magazine. In 2019, he received the MTV Europe Music Award for "Rock Icon". Together with Oasis, he was also honored with the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the Brit Awards 2007.
