Lauren Isenberg

Lauren Isenberg, known professionally by her moniker renforshort, is a Canadian singer and songwriter from Toronto who gained prominent international recognition in the alternative pop and bedroom pop genres. Renowned for her candid lyrics addressing youth, mental health, and personal experiences, she has established a distinct musical footprint with her raw vocal delivery and genre-blending soundscapes.

Early Life and Beginnings

Born on May 7, 2002, in Toronto, Ontario, Isenberg grew up in a music-oriented household alongside three brothers who were also musically inclined. Encouraged by her parents' eclectic record collection, which featured artists such as Bob Dylan, Nirvana, and Amy Winehouse, she began playing piano and composing songs at an early age. At thirteen, she wrote her first original song, and by age fourteen, she solidified her aspiration to pursue a music career following an open mic performance in Toronto. She soon began uploading cover videos to YouTube and SoundCloud, where she caught the attention of Canadian music producer Jeff Hazin, who became a long-time creative collaborator.

Music Career

Isenberg debuted independently under the stage name Ren in 2019 with the release of her single "Waves," followed by the viral success of "Mind Games." The traction from these early tracks earned her major record deals with Geffen and Interscope Records. Rebranding as renforshort, she released her debut extended play, Teenage Angst, in March 2020. The EP yielded hit singles such as "i drive me mad," which detailed her struggles with anxiety. She followed this release with her second EP, Off Saint Dominique, in 2021 and contributed to the Disney+ movie soundtrack for Clouds. In July 2022, she released her debut studio album, Dear Amelia, to critical acclaim. She subsequently released the EP Clean Hands Dirty Water in 2024 and A Girl's Experience in 2025.

Collaborations and Artistic Style

Often describing her musical style as "bubble-gum grunge," renforshort blends alt-pop melodies with punk-infused rock and bedroom pop aesthetics. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with prominent figures in the music industry, including Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, Linkin Park co-founder Mike Shinoda, and singer Jake Bugg. In addition to studio recordings, she has built a passionate global fan base through extensive touring across North America and Europe, both as a headliner and as a supporting act for major international artists.
