Kirsten Haglund

Kirsten Iora Müller-Daubermann (née Haglund), born September 14, 1988, is an American public speaker, eating disorder awareness activist, news commentator, and president of the Kirsten Haglund Foundation. She is best known for being crowned Miss America 2008, having previously served as Miss Michigan 2007.

At age 12, Haglund moved to Pennsylvania to live with a host family and study ballet at the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet School. She graduated from Walled Lake Western High School in 2006 and spent a year studying musical theatre at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music before taking time off for pageantry. Using over $60,000 in scholarship funds earned through the Miss America Organization, she later completed her studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Emory University in May 2013.

Haglund's pageantry achievements began with winning the Miss Oakland County local title in 2006, followed by the Miss Michigan title in June 2007. Representing Michigan at the Miss America 2008 pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada, she won a preliminary swimsuit award and sang "Over the Rainbow" for the talent portion. On January 26, 2008, she was crowned the 83rd Miss America. At 19 years old, she was the youngest contestant in the competition and the youngest winner since 1993. Her platform focused on eating disorder awareness, inspired by her personal five-year battle with anorexia beginning at age 12.

During her year as Miss America, Haglund promoted her platform through national television appearances, speeches at Harvard University and the National Press Club, and congressional briefings on Capitol Hill alongside the Eating Disorders Coalition. She also served as National Goodwill Ambassador for the Children's Miracle Network, visiting hospitals nationwide and meeting President George W. Bush. In the final week of her reign, she participated in President Barack Obama's Inaugural Parade with the USO and attended the Commander in Chief Inaugural Ball.

Following her reign, Haglund established the Kirsten Haglund Foundation in 2009, a non-profit organization offering treatment scholarships for women struggling with eating disorders. She has worked as a Community Relations Specialist at the Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center and served as an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association.

In media and broadcasting, Haglund has been a regular commentator on politics, youth, and women's issues across platforms including Fox News Channel, HLN, Fox Business News, and The Blaze. She served as a sideline correspondent for the 2012 and 2013 National Memorial Day Parades in Washington, D.C., worked as a lead anchor for the online news network Styrk.com, and hosted "The Sonder Podcast" on Faithwire.com.

Haglund married Ryan Smith in July 2012, and the couple later divorced. In October 2019, she married Amadeus Müller-Daubermann in Marco de Canaveses, Portugal, and she currently resides in Zürich, Switzerland.
