Jess Glynne

Jessica Hannah Glynne is an English singer and songwriter born on 20 October 1989. She rose to prominence in 2014 with featured vocals on the UK Singles Chart-topping songs "Rather Be" by Clean Bandit and "My Love" by Route 94. She subsequently signed with Atlantic Records and released her debut studio album, I Cry When I Laugh, in 2015. The album debuted at number one in the UK and produced successful singles including "Hold My Hand" and "Don't Be So Hard on Yourself."

Glynne was born in Hampstead and raised in Muswell Hill, North London, within a Jewish family. Her mother worked in A&R, and her family's surname was originally Goldstein. She attended Rhodes Avenue Primary School and Fortismere School, completing her A-levels in 2008. At age 15, she dropped out of auditions for The X Factor following a disagreement with producers. She worked in a boutique, a fitness centre, and a hairdresser's, spent time travelling, and worked for a music management company before pursuing music full-time.

After completing a course at Access to Music London, Glynne met collaborators Jin Jin and Bless Beats. She signed a publishing deal with Black Butter Records and joined Atlantic Records in August 2013. Her 2014 collaborations on "My Love" and "Rather Be" achieved major chart success. For "Rather Be," she won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. She followed these with her debut solo single "Right Here," a second Clean Bandit collaboration titled "Real Love," and a feature on Tinie Tempah's "Not Letting Go."

Following vocal cord surgery in mid-2015, Glynne released her debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, which topped the UK Albums Chart and earned a triple Platinum certification. In 2018, she featured on Rudimental's "These Days" and released "I'll Be There," becoming the first British female solo artist to achieve seven UK number-one singles. Her second album, Always In Between (2018), also debuted at number one in the UK, generating hits such as "All I Am," "Thursday," and "One Touch."

Glynne parted amicably with Atlantic Records in 2022 to pursue a new sonic direction, later signing with Roc Nation management, United Talent Agency, and EMI Records. She released the singles "Silly Me" and "What Do You Do?" in 2023, followed by her third studio album, Jess, in April 2024. Upon the album's launch, she received a BRIT Billion Award for reaching one billion UK streams.

Glynne's musical style spans pop, R&B, soul, and dance, drawing inspiration from artists such as Lauryn Hill, Frank Ocean, and Amy Winehouse. Over her career, she has received nine Brit Award nominations and was named one of Forbes' "Most Influential People Under 30" in 2019. In her personal life, she is a lifelong Arsenal supporter and began a relationship with sports broadcaster Alex Scott in 2023.
