Chasez was born in Washington, D.C., and was raised by adoptive parents Roy and Karen Chasez in Bowie, Maryland, alongside their children Tyler and Heather. He attended Robert Goddard Middle School and Bowie High School. As a child, Chasez pursued competitive dance and won a local talent contest at age 13. He later transferred to Dr. Phillips High School in Florida while filming for television.
In 1990, Chasez auditioned for Disney Channel's revival of The Mickey Mouse Club. Cast as a Mouseketeer on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, he appeared from 1991 to 1995, befriending future bandmate Justin Timberlake. After the show ended, Chasez and Timberlake began writing demos together. In 1995, Chris Kirkpatrick invited Timberlake and Chasez to form the boy band NSYNC, which ultimately included Joey Fatone and Lance Bass.
Serving as co-lead singer, Chasez achieved massive success with NSYNC. Their 1998 self-titled debut album sold 11 million copies. Their 2000 album, No Strings Attached, sold 2.4 million copies in its first week, becoming the fastest-selling album of all time at the time and generating number-one hits like "It's Gonna Be Me". The group released Celebrity in 2001 and performed at the Super Bowl XXXV halftime show before entering an indefinite hiatus in 2002.
During the hiatus, Chasez released his 2002 debut single "Blowin' Me Up (With Her Love)", followed by his 2004 debut solo album, Schizophrenic, on Jive Records. He also featured on Basement Jaxx's UK Dance Chart topper "Plug It In". Although he recorded a second album, The Story of Kate, with producers including Timberlake and Timbaland, the project was cancelled after Chasez parted ways with Jive Records in 2007.
From 2008 to 2012, Chasez judged the first seven seasons of America's Best Dance Crew. He continued writing and producing for acts such as the Backstreet Boys, Liam Payne, Diplo, McFly, and Matthew Morrison. He also formed the pop group Girl Radical in 2012, starred in the 2016 film Opening Night, and co-produced the 2024 Frankenstein-inspired musical concept album Playing with Fire.
Chasez reunited with NSYNC for several high-profile moments, including performances at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and Coachella in 2019. In September 2023, the group released "Better Place" for the film Trolls Band Together, marking their first new song in 22 years. In March 2024, NSYNC performed live together in Los Angeles, debuting the song "Paradise".
