J. Anthony Crane

J. Anthony Crane, also known as Tony Crane, is an American actor who performs across film, television, and the stage. Born on October 19, 1972, he was raised in Los Angeles, California. He attended Northwestern University, earning a degree in Theatre and Writing in 1993, and earned a certificate from London's Royal National Theatre in 1992. He is the son of prominent Los Angeles women's physician Paul H. Crane.

Crane made his feature film debut in the 1989 movie The War of the Roses. His subsequent cinematic work includes appearances in films such as Wishmaster, Turning, and Plucked.

In television, Crane gained prominence playing the character Remy McSwain in The Big Easy, a series adapted from the 1987 film of the same name. He later secured recurring and guest roles across numerous television programs, including Chicago PD, CSI, Succession, Billions, FBI, and the Amazon Video series Dead Ringers. He was also cast as Chandler Groff for the fourth and fifth seasons of the Netflix series Outer Banks.

On stage, Crane made his Broadway debut in Donald Margulies's Sight Unseen as an understudy. He has performed in four Broadway productions, including his role as Lieutenant Dave Caro in Between Riverside and Crazy at Second Stage. His theatrical credits also include playing Lancelot in the Mike Nichols-directed Las Vegas production of Spamalot, starring as Scar in Disney's The Lion King in 2010, and touring North America as M. Thénardier in Les Misérables in 2017.

Throughout his acting career, Crane has received nominations for several honors, including the Helen Hayes Award, the Bay Area Acting Award, the Berkshires Area Acting Award, and multiple Broadway World Awards.

Outside of acting, Crane works as a visual artist and woodworker, and he spent extended time working as a restaurant cook in Chicago. He has frequently resided in New Orleans, where he helped establish the Bywater Wonderland Society at the home of Stacy Hoover. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
