Imaan Hammam

Imaan Hammam is a Dutch fashion model born on October 5, 1996, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She is best known for her extensive international modeling career, having appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine twenty-seven times as of March 2026, including four appearances on the American edition. She has achieved recognition across the fashion industry, appearing on all of Vogue's "Big Four" covers and ranking among the "Industry Icons" on Models.com.

Hammam was raised in Amsterdam by her parents, who were immigrants from Egypt and Morocco. Her father worked in music, while her mother was a seamstress and Dutch language teacher. Her family spoke Arabic at home. After her parents divorced when she was eleven years old, Hammam lived in the Netherlands with her mother, her sister Aisha, and four older half-siblings. She also has a younger full-sibling who is a fellow model. Hammam is a Muslim and identifies as Afro-Arab.

Her modeling career began after she was discovered at age thirteen at Amsterdam's Central Station by an agent from CODE Management in 2010. She signed her first modeling contract at age sixteen. Hammam made her debut walking for Jean Paul Gaultier Couture in 2013. Later that year, she traveled to Paris with VIVA Model Management and opened the Givenchy show as an exclusive presenter.

Following her debut, Hammam quickly gained prominence within the industry. In 2014, she appeared on the cover of American Vogue, followed by covers for Teen Vogue and Vogue Netherlands in 2015. She won Couturesque Magazine's Model of the Year competition in April 2016. In 2017, she appeared on covers for British Vogue, Vogue Japan, Vogue China, Vogue España, Vogue Arabia, Vogue Netherlands, and two American Vogue covers, including a March group cover alongside Liu Wen, Gigi Hadid, and Vittoria Ceretti, as well as a December cover with Pharrell Williams.

Throughout her career, Hammam has represented leading global brands and fashion houses. She was selected as the face of Chanel beauty, becoming the first Black-Arab model to hold the role. She gained further recognition after walking in Versace's Fall/Winter 2018 show. In 2020, she partnered with the brand Frame to release a limited-edition ready-to-wear collection, and in 2022, she appeared in an advertising campaign for Jean Paul Gaultier's Scandal perfume. Hammam became a brand ambassador for Estée Lauder in 2023 and has also served as an ambassador for the H&M collaboration with Erdem.

By 2021, Hammam achieved covers for all four major Vogue editions after featuring on the cover of Vogue Paris, and she was featured on the cover of Forbes's 30 Under 30 Europe list for Art and Culture. She has appeared in editorials and on covers for publications including Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Allure, i-D, V, and W. Over her career, she has been signed with agencies including DNA Model Management, VIVA Model Management, Why Not Model Management, and CODE Management.

In addition to modeling, Hammam is involved in philanthropic and social initiatives. In 2019, she was named the first global ambassador for the nonprofit organization She's the First, which honored her as its Powerhouse of the Year in November 2021. She has also used her public platform to highlight social issues, including sharing infographics regarding the Israeli–Palestinian conflict in June 2020 and volunteering at a New York City food kitchen in December 2021.
