Gabriel Macht

Gabriel Macht is an American actor best known for playing the slick, high-powered attorney Harvey Specter in the legal drama “Suits.” Born on 22 January 1972 in the Bronx, New York, he is the son of actor Stephen Macht and grew up around the entertainment industry before training formally as an actor.

He graduated from Beverly Hills High School and earned a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. After early film and television work — including roles in “Behind Enemy Lines,” “The Good Shepherd” and the title role in the 2008 comic-book adaptation “The Spirit” — he found his defining role on “Suits.”

As Harvey Specter, the confident, sharply dressed New York lawyer at the heart of the USA Network series, Macht anchored the show across its nine seasons from 2011 to 2019 and took on a co-producer role from its third season. The character became one of television’s most quotable figures.

The series found a vast new audience when it began streaming years after its finale, turning “Suits” into a global phenomenon and renewing interest in Macht’s performance. Talk of spin-offs and a revival has kept the character in the cultural conversation.

Married to the Australian actress Jacinda Barrett, Macht largely stepped back from a heavy schedule after “Suits” concluded, and the family relocated outside the United States.

He remains closely identified with Harvey Specter, one of the most popular characters of modern American television, and his polished, confident portrayal continues to define the archetype that helped make the series a lasting hit.

Beyond “Suits,” Macht has kept a relatively low profile, choosing family life and selective projects over constant visibility. Yet the enduring popularity of Harvey Specter — fuelled by the series’ record-breaking streaming numbers — has ensured that he remains one of the most recognisable faces of contemporary legal drama, and speculation about his return to the character continues to generate headlines.
