Foxes (Singer)

Louisa Rose Allen, known professionally as Foxes, is an English pop singer, rock drummer, and guitarist. Born on April 29, 1989, in Southampton, Hampshire, she grew up in the Swaythling and St Denys areas. She attended St Denys Primary School, Cantell School, and Eastleigh College. Allen began writing music at the age of 14 and was a finalist in a local talent competition in 2009. Although she briefly considered training as a beauty therapist at age 18, her sister convinced her to move to London to pursue singing. She enrolled at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance but dropped out to focus directly on writing and performing.

To avoid confusion with singer Lily Allen, she adopted the stage name Foxes, inspired by a friend's suggestion based on her song "Like Foxes Do" and a dream her mother had about howling foxes. She began performing in London in 2011 and released her debut single, "Youth," on Neon Gold Records in January 2012. Shortly after, she signed with Sign of the Times, an imprint of Sony Music Entertainment. Her debut EP, Warrior, was released in July 2012, followed by tours supporting Marina and the Diamonds.

Foxes achieved international recognition after dance producer Zedd featured her on the late 2012 single "Clarity." The track peaked at number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. During this period, she also featured on Fall Out Boy's "Just One Yesterday" and Rudimental's UK top 20 single "Right Here." Her debut studio album, Glorious, was released in May 2014 via RCA Records, debuting at number five on the UK Albums Chart. It yielded successful UK singles including a re-release of "Youth," "Let Go for Tonight," and "Holding onto Heaven."

In February 2016, Foxes released her second studio album, All I Need, after recording in the United States, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The album featured the UK hit single "Body Talk," which she launched during a one-day, seven-city UK tour that earned her a Guinness World Record for the most live concerts in 12 hours across multiple cities. Other singles from the album included "Better Love," "Amazing," and "Cruel." She subsequently supported Coldplay on their A Head Full of Dreams Tour in Europe and North America.

After a multi-year hiatus, Foxes signed with PIAS Recordings and returned to releasing music in 2020 with the single "Love Not Loving You." This was followed by the release of her second EP, Friends in the Corner, in April 2021. Her third studio album, The Kick, was released on February 11, 2022, preceded by the single "Sister Ray."

Throughout her career, Foxes has also engaged in television and fashion projects. She appeared in an episode of Doctor Who in 2014, performing Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now." Outside of music, she signed with Premier Models and has featured in promotional campaigns for brands including Debenhams, Adidas, H&M, and Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.
