Dulce Maria

Dulce María Espinosa Saviñón, born on 6 December 1985 in Mexico City, is a Mexican singer and actress. She is of German, Native Mexican, and Spanish descent, and is a third cousin of painter Frida Kahlo. She achieved international recognition in 2004 after starring as Roberta Pardo in Televisa's telenovela Rebelde and joining the pop group RBD. As part of RBD, she contributed to nine studio albums and extensive global tours before the group disbanded in 2008.

Her entertainment career began at age five through appearances in television commercials. At age eight, she was cast in Plaza Sesamo, the Mexican adaptation of Sesame Street, appearing in live-action segments and animated opening credits. In 1996, she joined the Mexican music group KIDS, departing in 1999 to form the short-lived group D&D. In early 2000, she joined the female Latin pop group Jeans, leaving after two years to pursue television acting roles.

In 2002, Dulce María starred as Marcela Mejía in the telenovela Clase 406. Her role in Rebelde led to the formation of RBD alongside Maite Perroni, Christian Chávez, Alfonso Herrera, Anahí, and Christopher von Uckermann. The group released albums in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, selling over 20 million records worldwide. Following their breakup announcement in August 2008, the group concluded their active run with the Gira del Adiós World Tour.

In 2009, Dulce María signed with Universal Music Latin to launch her solo career. She recorded songs for the telenovela Verano de amor and released her first solo single, "Inevitable," in 2010. Her debut extended play, Extranjera - Primera Parte (2010), reached number one on Mexico's Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas chart, making her the first Mexican artist to receive a platinum certification in Brazil. She subsequently released four solo studio albums: Extranjera - Segunda Parte (2011), Sin Fronteras (2014), DM (2017), and Origen (2021).

Throughout her acting career, Dulce María appeared in various television and film projects. She starred in the 2007 high-definition sitcom RBD: La familia, played Miranda Perea in Verano de amor (2009), and took the title role in the 2011 independent film ¿Alguien ha visto a Lupita?. Her later television credits include roles in Mentir para Vivir, Corazón que miente, Muy padres, and Pienso en ti.

Dulce María has participated in numerous philanthropic campaigns, establishing the Fundación Dulce Amanecer in 2009 to support environmental causes and communities of indigenous women. She has also collaborated with PETA on animal welfare initiatives and served as a spokesperson for various youth and health campaigns. Her accolades include the MTV Europe Music Awards, Premios TVyNovelas, People en Español Awards, Premios Juventud, and the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.
