Dian Sastrowardoyo

Dian Paramita Sastrowardoyo, professionally known as Dian Sastro, is an Indonesian actress and model born on March 16, 1982. She is widely recognized for her role as Cinta in the romantic film Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?. Over her career, she has established a prominent presence in Indonesian cinema, appearing in numerous feature films, television productions, and brand campaigns.

Sastro was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, to artist Ariawan Sastrowardoyo and university lecturer Dewi Parwati Sastrowardoyo. Born Christian and raised Roman Catholic, she later converted to Islam. Her notable family members include her grandfather Dr. Sumarsono Sastrowardoyo, a physician, surgeon, and author, and her granduncle Sunario, who served as Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1953 to 1956. Her paternal great-grandfather Sutejo Sastrowardoyo traced the family's lineage back to 15th-century Javanese ancestry.

She attended junior high school at SMP Vincentius Otista Jakarta and high school at SMA Tarakanita 1. She then enrolled at the University of Indonesia, briefly studying law before transferring to the Faculty of Literature, where she earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy in July 2007. Sastro continued her postgraduate studies at the University of Indonesia's School of Economics, majoring in Finance Management and earning a Master's in Management degree cum laude in August 2014.

Sastro began her modeling career in 1996 after winning the teen beauty pageant Gadis Sampul at age 14, leading to her work as a cover girl for Gadis magazine. She made her breakthrough in film starring as Daya in Pasir Berbisik, which earned her the Best Actress award at the Deauville Asian Film Festival. She achieved wider prominence starring as Cinta in the 2002 hit movie Ada Apa dengan Cinta?, winning the Citra Award for Best Actress and establishing herself as a leading Indonesian film star.

Following her breakthrough, Sastro starred in Indonesian films such as Banyu Biru, Ungu Violet, and Belahan Jiwa, as well as the Malaysian production Puteri Gunung Ledang. Her television work includes playing Raya in Dunia Tanpa Koma and hosting the game show Kuis Super Milyarder 3 Milyar on ANTV. In 2016, she reprised her role as Cinta in the sequel Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? 2 alongside Nicholas Saputra, and portrayed Indonesia's national heroine in the biographical drama Kartini.

In later years, Sastro starred in the 2018 film Aruna dan Lidahnya, adapted from a novel by Laksmi Pamuntjak, and the 2020 Netflix film Crazy Awesome Teachers. In 2023, she played Jeng Yah in the Netflix series Cigarette Girl, directed by Kamila Andini and Ifa Isfansyah. Additionally, she has served as the face model for L'Oréal Paris Indonesia since 2010 and acted as a goodwill ambassador for the MTV EXIT campaign against human trafficking. Sastro married businessman Maulana Indraguna Sutowo on May 18, 2010, and the couple has two children.
