Dave Ryding is a former British alpine ski racer who competed primarily in slalom. Widely regarded as the most successful British alpine skier in history, he represented Great Britain across multiple World Cup seasons, World Championships, and five Olympic Games. Raised in Lancashire, England, Ryding gained his initial ski racing experience on artificial dry slopes before transitioning to snow-based competition as a teenager.
Ryding made his Alpine Ski World Cup debut in December 2009. Over the course of his career, he achieved seven World Cup podium finishes, including a notable second-place finish at the Kitzbühel slalom in 2017. In January 2022, he earned his landmark victory at Kitzbühel, becoming the first British athlete ever to win an Alpine Ski World Cup race. He also represented Team GB at five consecutive Olympic Winter Games, from Vancouver 2010 through Milano Cortina 2026.
Following the completion of his fifth Olympic appearance in February 2026, Ryding concluded his international competitive skiing career. Following his retirement from elite competition, he has remained involved in the sport through athlete mentorship initiatives and brand ambassador roles.
