Dami Im

Dami Im is an Australian-Korean singer and songwriter. She represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden, with the song "Sound of Silence," finishing in second place and recording Australia's highest score in the competition. She initially gained widespread recognition after winning the fifth season of The X Factor Australia in 2013, after which she signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia. In 2020, she departed Sony Music to sign with ABC Music.

Im was born in Seoul, South Korea, on October 17, 1988, to Lee Hae-yun, a trained opera singer, and Im Dong-eal. The elder of two children, she began learning the piano at age five and taught herself to sing by recording herself copying her favorite artists. At age nine, she emigrated to Australia with her mother and younger brother, settling in Brisbane. At age 11, she began studying piano at the Young Conservatorium of Music program at Griffith University. She graduated from John Paul College in 2005 and later earned a Bachelor of Music with first-class honors from the University of Queensland in 2009. She completed a Master of Music Studies degree in contemporary voice at Griffith University, where she was trained by Irene Bartlett and Sharny Russell. In 2025, Griffith University conferred upon her an Honorary Doctorate (DUniv) for distinguished service to the Arts.

Before participating in The X Factor Australia, Im spent time as a gospel singer, performing at Christian youth camps in South Korea and releasing her nine-track debut studio album, Dream, in 2010 to raise money for church endeavors. She re-released Dream with two English-language tracks in 2011, alongside the Christmas extended play Snow & Carol, followed by the EP Intimacy in 2012. Prior to her television breakthrough, she also taught piano and voice.

Following her win on The X Factor Australia in 2013, Im released her debut single, "Alive," which debuted at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart and was certified platinum. Her self-titled second studio album, featuring studio versions of her contest performances, also debuted at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart and received a platinum certification. This achievement made her the first contestant from The X Factor Australia to follow a number-one single with a number-one album on the ARIA charts. Her third studio album, Heart Beats (2014), reached the top ten on the ARIA Albums Chart and yielded the top-twenty singles "Super Love" and "Gladiator."

Beyond her domestic releases, Im participated in international appearances, including performing at the BTV Global Spring Festival Gala in China in 2016. In April 2016, she released Classic Carpenters, an album featuring cover versions of songs by The Carpenters, which reached number three on the ARIA Albums Chart and entered the top 25 on the South Korean charts. During her career, Im has also served as a charitable ambassador for Compassion Australia and engaged in commercial promotional partnerships.
