Christian Jacobs

Christian Richards Jacobs (born January 11, 1972) is an American television producer, musician, actor, and designer. He is widely recognized as the co-creator of the critically acclaimed children's television series Yo Gabba Gabba! and its streaming revival Yo Gabba GabbaLand!, as well as the lead vocalist and frontman for the Orange County rock band The Aquabats, performing under the stage persona MC Bat Commander.

Early Life and Acting Career

Born in Rexburg, Idaho, Jacobs relocated with his family to Los Angeles, California, at an early age. He began his career in entertainment as a child actor, appearing in various commercial campaigns, sitcoms, and feature films throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. His early screen credits included appearances in the television series Gloria, Roseanne, and Married... with Children, alongside roles in films such as Pretty in Pink and Gleaming the Cube. During this era, his close ties to the professional skateboarding scene led him to work as an artist and graphic designer, creating custom deck graphics and pro models for Birdhouse Skateboards and Blind Skateboards.

Music and Television Success

In 1994, Jacobs co-founded the superhero-themed ska-punk band The Aquabats alongside Chad Larson and Boyd Terry. Serving as the group's energetic frontman, MC Bat Commander, Jacobs spearheaded several studio albums and international concert tours. The band's distinct visual style and theatrical imagery eventually led to the creation of the live-action comedy series The Aquabats! Super Show!, which aired from 2012 to 2014 and earned Daytime Emmy Award nominations. In 2007, Jacobs and collaborator Scott Schultz launched the award-winning children's franchise Yo Gabba Gabba!, which became a global phenomenon on Nick Jr. and was later rebooted for Apple TV+.

Production and Personal Life

Through his joint production venture, The Magic Store, Jacobs continues to write, direct, compose, and produce family-oriented entertainment programs. Raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a two-year mission in Japan during the early 1990s before returning to Southern California. Jacobs remains active in media production, voice acting, and creative arts, dividing his time between music production and television development.
