Chenese Lewis

Chenese Tharis Lewis is an American plus-size model, actress, media personality, and body-positivity advocate. Born on November 14, 1979, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she gained national attention in 2003 as the first crowned Miss Plus America. Over her multi-decade career in entertainment and digital media, Lewis has established herself as a pioneering voice in plus-size fashion, media representation, and self-esteem advocacy.

Pageantry and Modeling Career

Lewis began her public career in 2002 after entering the Miss Louisiana Plus America pageant. Winning the state title, she went on to capture the national Miss Plus America crown in 2003. Following her pageant victory, she relocated to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue professional opportunities in modeling and acting. As a plus-size model, she has worked with prominent fashion brands such as Torrid and served as the Coast-to-Coast Curves spokesperson for Ashley Stewart. She has also made appearances in music videos, including Mariah Carey's "Oh Santa!", and was highlighted by Forbes as one of the original plus-size influencers.

Media and Hosting Projects

In addition to modeling, Lewis expanded into television and digital media hosting. She gained television exposure as a cast member on the BET reality series Hell Date and appeared as an expert commentator on programs like Dr. Phil and The Insider. In 2008, she launched The Chenese Lewis Show, a groundbreaking podcast centered on the plus-size fashion industry, featuring interviews with brand executives, influencers, and industry leaders. She has served as a keynote speaker and event host for major fashion gatherings, including events during New York Fashion Week and Los Angeles Fashion Week, as well as the Bronner Brothers International Beauty Show.

Advocacy and Executive Roles

Beyond her media work, Lewis is active in community leadership and public relations. She has produced events promoting healthy body image, including six years leading Hollywood NOW's Love Your Body Day initiative. Based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she serves as Chief Creative Officer of Chenese Lewis Productions, LLC, and leads her own public relations and marketing communications agency. She has also served on the board of directors for the Friends of the Capitol Park Museum and held leadership positions with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.
