Zak George

Zak George is an American dog trainer, author, and television personality who gained widespread recognition through his educational YouTube content. Born on December 3, 1978, in Atlanta, Georgia, he is known for promoting modern, reward-based canine instruction techniques across various digital and traditional media platforms.

George's career path in animal instruction began in 2005 after he acquired a dog named Venus. The pair started participating in disc competitions, which inspired George to leave his career in real estate. Despite lacking formal experience at the time, he secured a position as a trainer at PetSmart to pursue his new passion.

In 2006, George launched his YouTube channel, publishing tutorials and advice on dog obedience. Over his career, his channel expanded significantly, eventually attracting a audience of over 3.5 million subscribers. His online popularity helped establish him as a prominent voice in contemporary pet care.

George transitioned to broadcast television after pitching a concept to Animal Planet in 2008. This led to his role hosting the series SuperFetch, which premiered in 2009. He subsequently presented and produced the BBC children's program Who Let the Dogs Out? from 2011 to 2012, and hosted additional Animal Planet programming, including Dogs 101. Over his career, he has also appeared on major broadcasts such as Late Night with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, CBS's The Early Show, Fox and Friends, and Rachael Ray.

In 2016, Penguin Random House published his book, Zak George's Dog Training Revolution. Throughout his more than 16-year career, George has also contributed guest articles and blog posts focusing on pet behavior and instruction. His methods prioritize positive reinforcement, communication, and relationship building without the use of physical force or punishment, a philosophy similar to approaches advocated by Dr. Ian Dunbar and the SPCA.

In his personal life, George met his wife, Bree, while both were volunteering following the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The couple married on December 8, 2018. As of 2016, he resided in New Orleans with his wife and their household pets.
