Yasmin Finney

Yasmin Finney is an English actress and internet personality born on 30 August 2003. She is best known for her television role as Elle Argent in the Netflix series Heartstopper, which premiered in 2022. For her performance in the show, she received a Children's and Family Emmy Award nomination.

Finney was raised on a council estate in Trafford, Manchester, by her single mother, alongside her half-sister. She was born to a Jamaican mother and an English father of Irish and Italian descent. Growing up, she attended Ashton-on-Mersey School, part of The Dean Trust, and later studied performing arts at The Manchester College. During her youth, she participated in several local theatre productions, including performances at the University of Manchester's Sackville Theatre, the Royal Exchange Theatre, and the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.

Beginning in 2019, Finney initially established an online following through TikTok. Her videos documented her experiences as a Black British teenage trans woman.

Her screen acting career expanded in April 2021 when, at the age of 17, she was cast as Kelsa in the Billy Porter film Anything's Possible and as Elle Argent in Heartstopper. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions that affected her ability to secure a United States work visa, she had to withdraw from Anything's Possible and was replaced by Eva Reign. She continued her starring role in Heartstopper from 2022 onwards.

In August 2022, Finney was announced as part of the cast for the short film Mars, starring as the character Charlie Acaster. The short film premiered in October 2022 at the London Film Festival. In late August 2023, it was announced that she would serve as a guest judge during the fifth series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK, scheduled to broadcast in autumn 2023.

Finney joined the BBC series Doctor Who for its 60th anniversary specials in November 2023, playing the recurring role of Rose Noble, the trans daughter of former companion Donna Noble. She played the character through 2025. Her film work also includes the 2025 project LifeHack. Over the course of her career, Finney was included on GLAAD's second annual 20 Under 20 list.
