Sonja Morgan

Sonja Morgan, born Sonja Tremont on November 25, 1963, is an American television personality, stage actress, and entrepreneur. She is best known for her long-running role as a main cast member on the Bravo reality television series The Real Housewives of New York City.

She was born in Albany, New York, to Dennis Howard Tremont and Sandra Cooper (née Quell). Raised in Averill Park, New York, where her father and grandfather operated a lumber company, Morgan is of German, English, and Luxembourgish ancestry. Her ancestor Nicholas Tremont settled in the United States prior to 1880.

Morgan pursued higher education at the Fashion Institute of Technology, studying marketing. In the 1980s and 1990s, she worked as an interior director, event planner, and restaurant hostess for high-end Manhattan establishments. Expanding into retail, she launched her fashion line, Sonja by Sonja Morgan, in 2015. The line was sold online, at the Vanessa Noel store on East 64th Street, and in Century 21 stores prior to their bankruptcy filing in 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Morgan joined the main cast of The Real Housewives of New York City in 2010 during its third season and remained with the show for eleven seasons until 2021. Recognized as a fan favorite, she won Best Comedienne at the fan-chosen Real Housewives Awards for four consecutive years from 2015 to 2018. In 2021, the celebrity video messaging platform Cameo disclosed that Morgan was among its top ten highest-earning celebrities for the previous year.

Beyond reality television, Morgan made her off-Broadway theatrical debut in 2017 in Sex Tips for Straight Women by a Gay Man. In 2021, she began touring with an improv show titled Sonja in Your City, which featured cabaret and burlesque elements and sold out performances in cities including New York, Boston, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. She is also a frequent guest on Watch What Happens Live and has appeared on series such as Difficult People, Kocktails with Khloé, and Worst Cooks in America.

In July 2023, Morgan co-starred alongside Luann de Lesseps in the Bravo spin-off series Luann & Sonja: Welcome to Crappie Lake, and in December 2023, she appeared in the fourth season of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip on Peacock. In February 2026, she was announced for the E! reality show The Golden Life, set in Palm Beach, Florida, alongside former castmates, with further episodes expanded to The Hamptons, New York in July 2026. Throughout her career, Morgan has engaged in philanthropy supporting children, animal rights, LGBTQ+ causes, and the performing arts, earning a Singular Sensation Award in 1990 and a New York State Senate Award in July 2013.
