Savannah Guthrie

Savannah Clark Guthrie is an Australian-American broadcast journalist and attorney. She is best known as a main co-anchor of the NBC News morning show Today, a position she has held since July 2012. Throughout her career, she has served in various reporting, legal, and hosting capacities across broadcast networks, including work as a national trial correspondent, White House correspondent, and chief legal analyst for NBC News.

Guthrie was born on December 27, 1971, in Melbourne, Australia, where her father worked as a mining engineer. Her family returned to the United States two years later and settled in Tucson, Arizona. After graduating from Amphitheater High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in journalism cum laude from the University of Arizona in 1993. She later attended Georgetown University Law Center, graduating magna cum laude with a Juris Doctor in 2002 and earning the highest score on the Arizona Bar exam that year.

Her broadcast career began in 1993 at KTVM in Butte, Montana, followed by reporting roles at KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri, and KVOA in Tucson. She subsequently joined WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., covering events such as the September 11 attack on the Pentagon and the 2001 anthrax attacks. Following law school, she worked as a litigation associate at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and became a national trial correspondent for CourtTV in 2004, covering high-profile proceedings including Supreme Court confirmation hearings and the Michael Jackson trial.

Guthrie joined NBC News in September 2007 as a correspondent and legal analyst. She covered Sarah Palin's 2008 vice-presidential campaign before being named a White House correspondent in December 2008. She co-anchored MSNBC's The Daily Rundown in 2010 and 2011 before joining Today as co-host of its third hour and chief legal analyst. In July 2012, she succeeded Ann Curry as main co-anchor of Today. In this role, she has interviewed prominent figures, hosted the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and was named to Time magazine's 100 most influential people list in 2018.

Beyond daily news broadcasting, Guthrie has authored two children's books, Princesses Wear Pants and Princesses Save the World, as well as the religious book Mostly What God Does. She served as an interim guest host on Jeopardy! in 2021, appeared on television programs such as 30 Rock and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and participated in the Match for Africa charity tennis event. In May 2026, NBC announced she would host a new game show based on Wordle, scheduled to premiere in 2027.

In her personal life, Guthrie married BBC News presenter Mark Orchard in 2005, and the marriage ended in divorce in 2009. She married communications consultant Michael Feldman in 2014, with whom she has two children, Vale and Charles. In early 2026, she underwent vocal cord surgery and temporarily stepped away from Today. Shortly after, the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, led to a two-month hiatus from NBC News broadcasting duties before she returned to Today on April 6, 2026.
