Sadie Jean

Sadie Jean Wilcox, known professionally as Sadie Jean, is an American singer-songwriter born on May 15, 2002. She gained widespread attention for her music on social media and has since released an extended play and a full-length studio album, establishing a presence in contemporary pop music.

Raised in Tustin, California, Wilcox displayed an early interest in music. Her family noted that she created melodies before learning to speak and relied on her sister to transcribe her lyrics before she could write. She began piano instruction in the first grade and later expanded her musical skill set by taking vocal lessons, learning guitar, and acting in local theater productions. While attending Foothill High School, she sang in the school choir.

After her sophomore year of high school, her brother urged her to share her talent publicly after hearing her perform a cover of Radiohead's "Creep." She began posting original compositions to SoundCloud, starting with a song written about an unfaithful ex-boyfriend. In 2020, she enrolled at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music within New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she concentrated on songwriting and frequently created up to three songs a day.

In October 2021, Wilcox collaborated with fellow university students Grace Enger and David Alexander to write the track "WYD Now?" The song quickly achieved viral success on TikTok. The sudden popularity coincided with her university final exams, leading her to leave college to commit to a full-time music career. In 2023, the artist Rod Wave sampled "WYD Now?" on his track "2018," which reached number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 and marked Wilcox's initial entry onto the Billboard charts.

Wilcox officially released her seven-track debut EP, titled Simple Like 17, on December 1, 2023. The personal project expanded upon the melodic style of her breakout single while addressing topics such as heartbreaks and maturing into adulthood. She subsequently released her self-issued debut studio album, Early Twenties Torture, in October 2025.

Her confessional songwriting style is inspired by a wide range of musical influences, including Keane, Coldplay, Young The Giant, Katy Perry, Joni Mitchell, Taylor Swift, and Phoebe Bridgers. Her work earned her recognition by People as a Spring 2024 emerging artist.

Throughout her career, Wilcox has extensively toured as both a headliner and a supporting artist. She launched her own headlining tours for Simple Like 17 in 2024 and the Early Twenties Tour-ture in 2025. Additionally, she has served as a supporting act on tours with Johnny Orlando, Cian Ducrot, Rod Wave, Snow Patrol, Lauren Spencer Smith, and Ruel.
