Robin Thicke

Robin Alan Thicke is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer born on March 10, 1977. He is best known for his 2013 single "Blurred Lines" featuring T.I. and Pharrell Williams, which topped the Billboard Hot 100, earned a diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and became one of the best-selling singles of all time. The song earned nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.

Thicke was born in Los Angeles, California, to American actress-singer Gloria Loring and Canadian actor Alan Thicke. His parents divorced when he was seven years old. Raised alongside an older brother, Brennan, and a younger half-brother, Carter, he made minor television appearances on shows including The Wonder Years, The New Lassie, Just the Ten of Us, and Growing Pains. His parents encouraged his early musical talent, with his father helping him write his first songs. In his early teens, he formed a vocal group named As One, whose demo tape was funded by jazz vocalist Al Jarreau. This demo reached R&B singer Brian McKnight, who mentored Thicke and helped him secure his first recording deal with Interscope Records at age 16.

By age 17, Thicke supported himself as a professional songwriter and producer. He wrote and produced songs for numerous artists, including Brandy Norwood, 3T, Jordan Knight, Christina Aguilera, Mýa, and Color Me Badd. Initially recording solely under his surname Thicke, he released his debut single "When I Get You Alone" in 2002, which achieved chart success internationally. His debut studio album, A Beautiful World, was released in 2002 under Interscope's Nu America imprint. Despite low commercial sales, the album established his reputation among major industry peers.

In 2005, Thicke signed with Pharrell Williams' label, Star Trak Entertainment. He released his second album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, in 2006. The album debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and achieved platinum certification from the RIAA. Its breakout ballad, "Lost Without U," reached number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 11 weeks atop the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. To promote the project, Thicke toured with India.Arie, opened for John Legend, and later joined the North American leg of Beyoncé's tour, The Beyoncé Experience.

Thicke released his third album, Something Else, in 2008, debuting at number three on the Billboard 200 and featuring the single "Magic." He followed this with his fourth album, Sex Therapy: The Session (2009), which peaked at number nine, and his fifth album, Love After War (2011), which reached number 22. In 2013, he released his sixth album, Blurred Lines, which debuted atop both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart.

Beyond his studio recordings, Thicke has made various television appearances over the years, including a performance at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards alongside Lil Wayne. Since 2019, he has served as a panelist on the Fox musical competition show The Masked Singer.
