Patrick Sammie Mills, born 11 August 1988, is an Australian professional basketball player for ASVEL of the French LNB Élite and the EuroLeague, as well as the general manager of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors basketball program at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. Born and raised in Canberra, Mills is of Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal Australian descent. He first took up basketball at four years old with a local Indigenous club established by his parents. Growing up, he attended Marist College, the Australian Institute of Sport, and Lake Ginninderra College, while playing both junior basketball and underage Australian rules football at a high level.
In 2006, Mills earned the RE Staunton Medal at the U20 Nationals, was named the U/21 Australian Youth Player of the Year with the Australian Institute of Sport, and was selected as the Junior Male Player of the Year by Basketball Australia. That same year, he received the Deadlys Award for most promising new sports talent and was named NAIDOC National Sportsperson of the Year. In 2007, he became the third Indigenous basketball player to represent the Australian national team. He subsequently played two years of college basketball for the Saint Mary's Gaels, where he earned All-WCC First Team honors in both seasons before declaring for the NBA draft in 2009.
Selected 55th overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2009 NBA draft, Mills played two seasons in Portland while also spending time with the Idaho Stampede. During the 2011 NBA lockout, he played for the Melbourne Tigers in Australia's National Basketball League and the Xinjiang Flying Tigers in China. Mills returned to the United States in March 2012 and signed with the San Antonio Spurs. Over nine seasons in San Antonio, he established himself as a key contributor off the bench, achieved multiple franchise three-point milestones, and helped the Spurs win the 2014 NBA championship.
In August 2021, Mills signed with the Brooklyn Nets, where he set a league record for three-pointers made on Christmas Day and surpassed Andrew Bogut as the highest-scoring Australian player in NBA history. After being traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 2023 and waived in early 2024, he signed with the Miami Heat in March 2024 and later joined the Utah Jazz in September 2024. He was subsequently traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in February 2025 before joining ASVEL.
Internationally, Mills has been a longstanding member of the Australian national team, known as the Boomers. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics held in 2021, he led Australia to its first-ever Olympic medal in basketball. Frequently referred to as "FIBA Patty" for his high-level international play, Mills stands as the fifth-highest scorer in Olympic basketball history and is widely recognized for his three-point shooting and leadership.
