Lee was born to parents Soonam and Clara Lee, who emigrated from South Korea to Australia in the early 1990s. Her younger brother, Min Woo, won the 2016 U.S. Junior Amateur, making them the first brother and sister pair to win USGA junior titles. While attending Methodist Ladies' College in Perth, Lee became the youngest winner of the WA Amateur Open in 2010. She transferred to Corpus Christi College in 2012 to be closer to Royal Fremantle Golf Club, leaving the school in 2013.
During her amateur career, Lee won the 2012 U.S. Girls' Junior, back-to-back Australian Women's Amateur titles in 2013 and 2014, and several other amateur events. In February 2014, after winning the Oates Victorian Open on the ALPG Tour, she became the number one ranked amateur golfer in the world. She maintained the top ranking until turning professional in September 2014, shortly after leading Australia to victory at the Espirito Santo Trophy.
As a professional, Lee secured her first LPGA Tour title at the 2015 Kingsmill Championship, followed by 2016 victories at the Lotte Championship and Blue Bay LPGA. She tied for seventh at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In 2018, Lee won the LPGA Volvik Championship, finished second on the LPGA money list with $1,551,032, and averaged 69.75 shots per round. She won her fifth LPGA Tour title at the 2019 Hugel-Air Premia LA Open, briefly rising to number two in the Women's World Golf Rankings, and later finished 29th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Lee captured her first major title at the 2021 Amundi Evian Championship by overcoming a seven-stroke deficit in the final round to win a playoff. In 2022, she won the Cognizant Founders Cup and earned her second major at the U.S. Women's Open with a tournament-record score of 271, earning $1.8 million. She also won the season-long $1,000,000 Aon Risk Reward Challenge in 2022. Lee claimed her third major title at the 2025 Women's PGA Championship, finished third at the Evian Championship, and helped Australia win the International Crown. On 5 May 2026, she committed to joining the WTGL.
Over her career, Lee has accumulated 14 professional wins, including 11 LPGA Tour victories. Her achievements include winning the Greg Norman Medal in 2018, 2021, and 2023, as well as the Rolex Annika Major Award in 2022 and 2025, becoming the award's first two-time recipient. In 2025, she was named the Western Australian Sports Star of the Year.
