Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Wayne attended Parkway North High School and is the son of Lamont and Leslie Joanne Wayne. Initially aspiring to rap, he shifted his full attention toward hip-hop production and self-taught beatmaking. During high school, he produced multiple beats daily and utilized social media platforms like Twitter to network with established artists and submit beats for potential placements.

While in high school, his mother frequently drove him from St. Louis to Atlanta, Georgia, to collaborate with artists he met online, including Tay Don, OJ da Juiceman, Gucci Mane, and Future. In 2012, he moved to Atlanta to study business management at Morehouse College, though he took a hiatus after one semester to focus on production. He executive produced Future's Monster mixtape (2014) and Drake and Future's collaborative mixtape What a Time to Be Alive (2015). Across 2016 and 2017, he earned credits on several successful singles, including "Jumpman" by Drake and Future, "Low Life" by Future, "Father Stretch My Hands" by Kanye West, "Bad and Boujee" by Migos, "Congratulations" by Post Malone, "Mask Off" by Future, and "Bank Account" by 21 Savage.
