Gaby Moreno

Maria Gabriela Moreno Bonilla, known professionally as Gaby Moreno, is a Guatemalan singer-songwriter, guitarist, and composer born on 16 December 1981 in Guatemala City. Performing in both English and Spanish, her musical style spans genres including Latin, alternative, blues, folk, and Americana. Over her career, she has won one Grammy Award and two Latin Grammy Awards, in addition to receiving an Emmy nomination.

Born in Guatemala City, Moreno later relocated to Los Angeles. She began touring internationally in 2009, opening as direct support for Tracy Chapman in August 2009 and for Ani DiFranco on an East Coast tour in late 2009, which extended into early 2010. Later in 2010, she toured across France and several cities in Germany, including Constance, Heidelberg, and Ravensburg.

In early 2011, Moreno and her band launched their first headlining tour, performing in Belgium and the Netherlands as part of the World Sessions tour. That same year, she opened for Nouvelle Vague in Germany and supported The Milk Carton Kids on a U.S. East Coast tour. In 2012, Moreno joined Ricardo Arjona on his Metamorfosis World Tour and appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno alongside Kris Kristofferson to mark 50 years of Amnesty International.

Moreno continued touring extensively across the globe over subsequent years. In 2012, she performed in London with Van Dyke Parks and shared the stage in Ireland with musicians including Bono, Damien Rice, Bob Geldof, and Angelique Kidjo for the Electric Burma concert. She toured Europe, South America, and Mexico with Hugh Laurie and The Copper Bottom Band during 2013 and 2014. In 2015, she staged performances under the name Gaby Moreno y amigos at Festival Acústico with guest artists such as Oscar Isaac and Sara Watkins, and later performed at Lincoln Center in New York City. In 2016, she became a recurring guest on Live From Here.

As a recording artist, Moreno released a cover of David Rudder's song The Immigrants in 2018 alongside arranger Van Dyke Parks to benefit CARECEN. In 2020, Moreno and Parks released the collaborative album ¡Spangled!, featuring contributions from Ry Cooder and Jackson Browne. In 2022, she released the album Dreamers Dream On with her side project group, The SongBirds, as well as her self-produced seventh solo studio album, Alegoría, which earned a Grammy nomination. Her duet music video with Ricardo Arjona for Fuiste Tu has garnered over one billion views on YouTube.

In film and television, Moreno recorded and produced the score for the feature film Language Lessons and earned an Emmy nomination for the theme song to NBC's Parks and Recreation. She voiced the character Marlena and sang the theme song for Disney's Elena of Avalor, wrote and performed Por Que Te Vas with Heitor Pereira for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and appeared in an episode of Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities alongside Rupert Grint. Her rendition of Cucurrucucú Paloma appeared in Orange Is the New Black, and in March 2026, she made her Broadway debut as Persephone in Hadestown.
