Eric Hutchinson

Eric Hutchinson is an American singer-songwriter born on September 8, 1980. He is best known for his hit songs, including "Rock & Roll", "OK, It's Alright with Me", "Not There Yet", "Watching You Watch Him", and "Tell the World". In addition to his studio releases, he wrote and performed the theme song for ESPN's Fantasy Focus podcast. Recognized for his live performances and sharp, colorful suits, he has been named an AOL "About to Pop" artist, Yahoo! Who's Next Artist, MSN "One to Watch" Artist, and a "VH1 You Oughta Know" Artist.

Hutchinson grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland. He is the son of Royal Hutchinson, who was of Scottish ancestry, and Jean Hutchinson (née Engel), who is of German ancestry. He graduated from Montgomery Blair High School and later attended Emerson College in Boston. Early in his career, he earned second place at the 2002 Los Angeles Songwriter's Grand Slam.

In 2005, Hutchinson signed with Maverick Records, though the label shut down before releasing his debut. He independently recorded and released the album Sounds Like This in 2007. After receiving praise from gossip blogger Perez Hilton, the album reached the top ten on the iTunes Store, peaking at number five in September 2007 and debuting at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. It became the highest-charting album by an unsigned artist in iTunes history. Warner Bros. Records subsequently picked up the album for release in May 2008. The single "Rock & Roll" reached number one in Australia, achieved Platinum status there, and earned Gold certifications in the United States, New Zealand, and Norway.

Hutchinson released his second studio album, Moving Up, Living Down, through Warner Bros. Records in April 2012. Its lead single, "Watching You Watch Him", debuted on the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy and was performed on the Late Show with David Letterman. In April 2014, he released Pure Fiction via Kobalt Label Services. The album's track "Tell the World" was selected as the theme song for the NBC sitcom Growing Up Fisher and was featured in the first commercial for Microsoft Windows 10. He followed this with the self-produced album Easy Street in August 2016.

In October 2018, he released Modern Happiness under the name Eric Hutchinson and the Believers, marking his first album credited with his band. His next project, Before & After Life, was released in February 2019 following an initial track-by-track release to Patreon members. In 2020, he released Class of 98, later issuing a deluxe acoustic edition. In August 2022, he released Sing Along!, a six-track album inspired by 1960s-era folk and gospel protest music.

Hutchinson has toured extensively across the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, England, and Dubai. He has shared stages with artists such as Kelly Clarkson, Jason Mraz, OneRepublic, Pentatonix, and Hanson. His regular touring band, The Believers, features Elliott Blaufuss, Ian Allison, Bryan Taylor, and backup vocalist Jessie Payo. Hutchinson is married to costume designer Jilian Bream, and they have a daughter.
