Jason Mraz

Jason Thomas Mraz is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist born on June 23, 1977. He is best known for his hit singles, including "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)," "I'm Yours," and "I Won't Give Up," as well as his multi-platinum studio albums. Mraz rose to public prominence following the release of his 2002 major-label debut album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come.

Mraz was born and raised in Mechanicsville, Virginia. After his parents divorced when he was five years old, he lived with his father. While attending Lee-Davis High School, he participated in the cheerleading squad, school chorus, and drama club before graduating in 1995. He subsequently attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City to pursue musical theater, where he acquired a discarded guitar and taught himself to play and write songs. After taking odd jobs in Virginia and briefly attending Longwood University on a scholarship, he relocated to San Diego, California.

In San Diego, Mraz worked as a roadie for the band Elgin Park and established a regular weekly performance slot at the coffee house Java Joe's. After releasing several self-published acoustic projects, he signed a recording contract with Elektra Records in late 2001. His major-label debut, Waiting for My Rocket to Come, was released in 2002 and spawned his first top-40 single on the Billboard Hot 100, "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)." He followed this success with his second album, Mr. A–Z, in 2005, which debuted at number five on the Billboard 200.

Mraz achieved major international success with his third studio album, We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. (2008), which reached number three on the Billboard 200 and was certified quadruple Platinum. Its lead single, "I'm Yours," spent a then-record 76 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved Diamond certification. The album also earned him two Grammy Awards for the singles "Make It Mine" and "Lucky," a duet with Colbie Caillat. In 2012, Mraz released Love Is a Four Letter Word, which reached number two on the Billboard 200 and featured the multi-platinum single "I Won't Give Up."

In the following years, Mraz released the top-ten albums Yes! (2014), recorded with the band Raining Jane, and Know. (2018). He made his Broadway debut in late 2017, starring as Dr. Pomatter in the musical Waitress. After signing a three-album agreement with BMG in 2020, he released Look for the Good (2020) and Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride (2023). In 2023, he competed on season 32 of Dancing with the Stars, finishing in second place.

Throughout his career, Mraz has won two Grammy Awards, two Teen Choice Awards, a People's Choice Award, and the Hal David Songwriters Hall of Fame Award. He has sold over seven million albums and more than 11.5 million digital singles, and has performed at notable venues worldwide, including London's Royal Albert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the White House.
