EJAE

Kim Eun-jae, known professionally as Ejae, is a South Korean and American singer, songwriter, and record producer. She initially gained recognition for her songwriting and production work with prominent K-pop artists before achieving international prominence providing the singing voice for the character Rumi in the animated film KPop Demon Hunters (2025) and co-writing several songs on its soundtrack, including the global hit song Golden.

Born on December 6, 1991, in Seoul, South Korea, Kim moved with her family to Fort Lee, New Jersey, at six months old. She spent several years of her childhood in New Jersey before returning to South Korea at age eight to attend Seoul Foreign School. After returning to the United States for high school, she attended the New York University Tisch School of the Arts, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in 2014. Her grandfather is actor and arts patron Shin Young-kyun.

At age 11, Kim became a trainee for SM Entertainment in 2003, undergoing idol training for nearly a decade. In 2011, she paused her training to complete her studies. Her contract ended in 2015 without a debut as a soloist or group member, ending her idol training.

Following college, Kim transitioned into songwriting and music production. After singing on a K-drama soundtrack, she worked with producer Shinsadong Tiger to write Hello for EXID's Hani. Mentored by Andrew Choi, Kim attended her first SM Entertainment songwriting camp in 2017. Her major breakthrough as a songwriter occurred when she co-wrote the topline for Red Velvet's song Psycho, which topped the US Billboard World Digital Songs chart. Over the following years, she contributed to tracks for K-pop acts including Aespa, Twice, Le Sserafim, and Red Velvet, while also co-producing the Girl Crush K-pop Vocals sample pack. In 2025, she signed with independent music publisher Prescription Songs.

Kim achieved wide international success in 2025 through the film KPop Demon Hunters. Having co-written and recorded many of the early demos, she was selected as the singing voice for Rumi and co-wrote several soundtrack songs. The soundtrack reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The song Golden, co-written and co-performed by Kim, topped the Billboard Hot 100 and earned four Grammy Award nominations, including Song of the Year. It became the first K-pop song to win the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media, the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song, and the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Kim launched her solo performance career in late 2025, releasing her debut solo single In Another World on October 24, 2025, followed by Time After Time on February 6, 2026. During this period, she made a cameo appearance on Saturday Night Live, performed Golden on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, appeared at the Snoop Dogg 2025 NFL Halftime Show, and performed at Coachella 2026 with Katseye. She also featured on Anyma's single Out of My Body and co-performed DNA (More Than a Game), the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alongside Andrea Bocelli, Megan Thee Stallion, and David Guetta.

Kim is based in Brooklyn. She has been engaged to former music producer Sam Kim since late 2023.
