Doctor Mike

Dr. Mikhail Varshavski, professionally known as Doctor Mike, is an American board-certified family medicine physician, internet personality, and digital content creator. He first gained widespread public attention after being featured in media outlets and named the "Sexiest Doctor Alive" by People magazine in 2015. Since then, he has leveraged his global platform to promote health literacy, deliver evidence-based medical advice, and actively combat medical misinformation across social media networks.

Early Life and Education

Born on November 12, 1989, in Saransk, Soviet Union, Varshavski immigrated with his family to the United States at six years old, settling in Brooklyn, New York. His passion for medicine was influenced by his father, a physician who re-qualified in the U.S. through an osteopathic medical program. Varshavski pursued higher education at the New York Institute of Technology, completing an accelerated seven-year track to earn a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree in 2014. He subsequently completed his family medicine residency at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey.

Content Creation and Media Career

Varshavski launched his YouTube channel, @DoctorMike, in 2016, quickly becoming one of the most followed medical creators on the platform. His content features entertaining reaction videos to popular medical dramas, deep dives into health trends, myth-busting explainers, and practical wellness advice designed for general audiences. Alongside his short-form and long-form video content, he hosts the interview podcast "The Checkup with Doctor Mike," where he engages with health experts, celebrities, and prominent internet figures on wellness, mental health, and medical science.

Philanthropy and Personal Life

Beyond content creation and maintaining an active clinical practice in New York, Varshavski is heavily engaged in philanthropic efforts. He established the Limitless Tomorrow foundation to award scholarships to high-achieving students overcoming financial barriers. He has also competed in high-profile charity events, including celebrity boxing matches and motorsport races in the Ferrari Challenge series, using these events to raise funds for humanitarian organizations. In recognition of his work in digital health advocacy, he was named a UNICEF USA Ambassador and featured on the TIME100 Health list.
