Fernández developed an early passion for football and joined the youth system of Estudiantes Tecos at fifteen years of age. He later competed in the Tercera División de México for Valle del Grullo and had a brief stint playing in Puerto Rico for Guayama. His initial athletic career came to an end in 2014 due to a severe knee injury. Encouraged by his parents, he subsequently decided to transition into acting.

While attending college, Fernández discovered an interest in acting, which he continued to pursue after relocating to London. After working on several independent film projects, he secured his prominent role in Ted Lasso. Beyond his on-screen work, he co-founded the film production company Espectro MX Films.

Fernández has also appeared in several high-profile feature films, including Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in 2023, Venom: The Last Dance in 2024, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 in 2024. In television, he joined the cast of the German-language Swiss sitcom Unsere kleine Botschaft, playing local embassy worker Fernando. Fluent in German, he performed the role without voice dubbing.

In addition to film and television roles, Fernández has featured in commercial campaigns. Beginning in 2024, he appeared alongside Patrick Mahomes in the State Farm commercial Bundle is Life, and he was featured in both English and Spanish advertisements for Old Spice Swagger deodorant. Within his family, his younger sister Paloma Cinco is an actress, model, and entrepreneur who was cast as Dani Rojas' sister, Maria Rojas, for the fourth season of Ted Lasso in 2026.

In early 2026, Fernández sought a return to professional football. He spent time training with MLS reserve club Chicago Fire II before trialing with USL Championship team El Paso Locomotive, playing roughly thirty minutes during a pre-season match against New Mexico United. El Paso signed him to a professional contract on May 12, 2026. He made his official debut for the team on July 11, 2026, coming on as a substitute in the seventy-ninth minute against New Mexico in the 2026 USL Cup.
