Victoria Canal

Victoria Canal Tinius, born August 11, 1998, is a Spanish-American singer, songwriter, and musician. Born without her right forearm due to amniotic band syndrome, she identifies as a disabled bisexual artist. She spent her upbringing moving between international locations, including Barcelona and Madrid, eventually building a career through original extended plays, studio recordings, and high-profile live performances. Beyond her musical releases, she has taken on acting projects and conducted tours both as a featured supporting act and as a headliner.

Canal was born in Munich, Germany, to an architect and artist mother and a businessman father. She experienced a global upbringing across cities such as Shanghai, Tokyo, Dubai, and Amsterdam, spending most of her youth in Spain. At six years old, inspired by watching her grandmother play in church, she began classical voice and piano training. Although her first teacher taught her to play using only her left hand, her mother urged her to use both hands. She shifted toward pop songwriting by age 11, participating in local competitions and scheduling her own shows before enrolling in online school in 2013 to pursue music full-time.

During her early teens in Dubai, Canal appeared on television broadcasts and recorded a demo CD. She received two full scholarships to summer programs at the Berklee College of Music, earned a certificate from el Aula del Conservatori in Barcelona, and underwent vocal training in Atlanta and Madrid. After winning a songwriting competition in 2014, she moved to Atlanta in 2015 to complete her debut EP, Into the Pull, subsequently touring with Joan Osborne. In 2018, artist Michael Franti discovered her on Instagram and brought her to Nashville to collaborate, leading to a tour position in 2019. Over the next two years, she released singles such as "Drama"—which appeared in a Nike campaign—and issued her second EP, Victoria, in August 2020.

Following a relocation to Amsterdam in 2021, Chris Martin of Coldplay discovered her online and introduced her to Parlophone Records. Canal signed with the label in May 2022, releasing her EP Elegy that autumn alongside the theme for the series Best Foot Forward. She made her acting debut in December 2022 with a leading episode role on the Apple TV+ series Little America. Between 2023 and 2024, Canal won the Ivors Academy Rising Star Award, an Attitude Pride Icon Award, and two Ivor Novello Awards, while also joining Hozier on tour and performing with Coldplay at the Glastonbury Festival.

Canal issued her debut studio album, Slowly, It Dawns, on January 17, 2025, promoting the release with a headline tour across the United States and the United Kingdom. Her tour performance at the Kennedy Center broke livestream viewership records for the venue. In August 2025, Canal publicly accused Franti of grooming and sexual assault during their tour when she was 19, a claim Franti disputed by stating their former relationship was consensual.
